Ukraine reported loss of 80% of generating capacity

The situation in the Ukrainian energy system is extremely difficult after the destruction of energy infrastructure facilities, reports the local energy holding DTEK. According to him, attacks on Ukrainian thermal power plants led to the loss of 80% of generating capacity.

Eighty percent of the company's generating capacity is lost. Five of our six thermal power plants are seriously damaged. The situation is very difficult

– noted in the message.

The company released a video showing the consequences of attacks on one of its thermal power plants. It is alleged that the thermal power plant was hit from March 22 to March 29.

Footage taken inside one of the Ukrainian thermal power plants that was hit at the end of March.

On March 22, Russian troops launched a massive missile and drone attack on energy facilities and the military-industrial complex of Ukraine. The head of the Ukrainian national energy company Ukrenergo, Vladimir Kudrytsky, later said that the country's energy system had suffered the largest attack "of all time." According to him, the combined attacks hit a number of thermal and hydroelectric power plants. The Ukrainian energy holding DTEK reported the defeat of several thermal power plants.

At the same time, the D.Trading company, which is part of the DTEK group, stated that due to the current situation in the country, it has increased the import of electricity from Europe. It seems that the holding’s management is trying to convince Russia that everything is very bad in the Ukrainian energy sector and there is no point in continuing to strike.

Until the nuclear power plants are shut down, the stories of crests about the loss of 80% of generating capacity are a lie.

Yes, somehow the author’s figure with 80% losses of generating capacity does not work. Before the SVO, only Ukrainian nuclear power plants produced 50-55% of electricity. With the loss of Zaporizhzhya NPP, the rest give about 34%. And it turns out that even if all non-nuclear generation is destroyed, which in principle cannot happen anywhere and never, diesel generators will remain. But a couple of hydroelectric power stations are still standing and operating on the Dnieper, Dniester and other rivers. How many small thermal power plants are there in all cities of Ukraine, how many wind and solar power stations? No, it is advisable for the author to clarify what he meant.
