China has developed a project for an over-the-horizon anti-aircraft missile with a range of about 2 thousand km
Engineers from the Northwestern Polytechnic University of China have developed the concept of a surface-to-air anti-aircraft missile with a range of about 2 thousand km. Typically, the radius of destruction of such missiles does not exceed several hundred kilometers. The length of such ammunition will be 8 meters, the weight will reach 2,5 tons.
It is reported that the targets of the missile will be not very maneuverable objects: AWACS and electronic warfare aircraft, aerial tankers, strategic bombers and other similar aircraft.
The rocket will consist of two stages. The first will provide initial acceleration. Next, the second stage, equipped with a ramjet engine, will come into operation.
The missile will be guided to the target using satellite signals, and when approaching the object in the process of reducing speed, the autonomous guidance system will come into action.
It is important to note that Northwestern University has a large base of developments of such equipment, including hypersonic missiles. It is possible that the design of this device is based on the Feitian-1 hypersonic rocket with a multi-mode engine, which was launched in 2022. A special feature of the rocket is that the engine uses less compressed oxygen in the first stages, consuming it from the environment.
