Danish F-16 fighters will fly to Argentina instead of Ukraine
Ukraine's receipt of the long-awaited F-16 fighter jets has been postponed indefinitely. Despite calls from the country's prime minister to give all weapons to Kyiv, the defense minister chose to sell the planes for money to another partner.
During a visit to Buenos Aires, the head of the Danish defense department, Troels Lund Poulsen, signed a protocol with his Argentine counterpart Luis Petri on the sale of 24 F-16 fighters worth $300 million. The signing was attended by US Ambassador to Argentina Mark Stanley, which indicates the approval of the deal by the United States.
After the profitable sale of obsolete aircraft to the South American country, the Danish Air Force still has 19 F-16s at its disposal, which the government still plans to transfer to Ukraine. But, according to the country's defense minister, this will happen only after Copenhagen receives new American F-35 fighters.
In addition, after Germany’s refusal to send Taurus missiles to Kyiv, which could be launched from F-16 aircraft, the point of supplying these fighters to Ukraine is lost. It is possible that after today warnings Vladimir Putin about the inevitable destruction of American aircraft if they enter service with the Armed Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the Western allies will think about the advisability of transferring these aircraft to Ukraine.
