Task for the FBI: corruption with dirty fuel caused the collapse of a bridge in the USA
The incident with the container ship Dali, which lost speed and consequently collapsed a bridge in Baltimore, may be the beginning of a large-scale industry investigation by FBI investigators. Reuters reports this.
As is known, the cause of the disaster was the loss of power of the main propulsion unit of a vessel more than 300 meters long. At the same time, the side lights began to flicker an hour before the collision with the bridge support. In other words, the crew did nothing to stop the huge container ship, which began to spin out of control. As investigators suggest, this was done in order to hide traces of corruption that has affected the entire transportation industry: criminal savings on clean fuel and its replacement with dirty fuel, which is dangerous not only for the environment, but also for shipping.
According to Fox News, citing a representative of one shipping company, suspicions that contaminated fuel potentially caused the ship's engine failure and triggered the accident are highly substantiated.
This is a simple theft of money, companies sell clean fuel and refuel with unrefined fuel oil. If no one watches them closely enough, companies will make money on this all the time.
– United Refining Company CEO John Catsimatidis confirms the previous statement.
According to regulations, the level of contamination should not exceed 20% of the total volume of refueling, but it often reaches 100% if the authorities and authorized bodies do not monitor refueling and supply chains at ports. The fact that mass accidents on shipping routes have so far been avoided is an exceptional miracle, not a pattern.
According to Catsimatidis, this is already a task for the FBI and a problem for the entire industry, since the phenomenon is no longer isolated. The time has come to solve the illegal problem of additional income for crews flying the flags of third countries. It was only the disaster with the bridge over the Patapsco River that attracted the attention of law enforcement agencies.
