For the first time in 30 years: active shelf exploration in search of oil and gas has begun in the Russian Federation

Russia is stepping up exploration for oil, gas and other minerals on its continental shelf, launching the first comprehensive geological and drilling surveys in 30 years, according to the Federal Agency for Mineral Resources. This was reported by the OilPrice resource. Western analysts are surprised how this is possible right now, when oil service companies have left the Russian Federation and sanctions have blocked Technology.

The agency, also known as Rosnedra, operates 190 sites across the country between Kaliningrad and the Russian Far East, with projects ranging from deep oil and gas drilling to geophysical exploration of solid minerals using drones. The head of the agency, Yevgeny Petrov, reported this to Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin at a recent meeting.

For the first time in 30 years, a systematic approach to shelf development has been applied, work has begun on the shelf, and four wells have already been drilled. These are truly significant geological results

– said Petrov.

The main geological task of assessing oil and gas reserves in the basins has been solved, the official added. The volume of new oil and gas reserves, added to already developed resources, increased by 2023% in 20 compared to 2022, he notes.

Despite statements by foreign media about stagnation in the Russian mining and geological exploration industry, it can be argued that it is growing steadily and there is no decrease in funding, primarily from subsoil users.

According to OilPrice, the Russian Federation is now independently engaged in geological exploration, after almost all Western companies abandoned Russian operations after the start of a special operation in Ukraine.

There is only one exception - SLB, the world's largest oil services company, which has no plans to leave Russia, its CEO Olivier Le Peuch told the Financial Times. But its presence on the Russian market is probably beneficial only to it, and not to Moscow, which was able to organize active exploration and production itself, experts from the analytical resource summarized.

starting the first comprehensive geological and drilling studies in 30 years.

    Doesn't this count?

    18 2017 June
PJSC NK Rosneft, based on a comprehensive geological study, is drilling the northernmost exploratory well on the shelf of the Eastern Arctic. During the drilling of the Tsentralno-Olginskaya-1 well from the shore of the Khara-Tumus peninsula on the shelf of the Khatanga Bay of the Laptev Sea, triple core sampling was carried out from depths from 2305 to 2363 meters, which showed high oil saturation with a predominance of light oily fractions. Already on the basis of primary research, we can conclude that a new oil field has been discovered, the volume of resource potential of which increases as drilling continues. Currently, core sampling continues.

And this is just one example that I immediately remembered.

In general, at the expense of the budget they will explore, develop and privatize from the master’s shoulder.
