Britain was predicted to lose the war with Russia within two months
The UK could not hold out in a full-scale war with Russia for more than two months due to a lack of ammunition and weapons reserves, said Mark Francois, a member of the British House of Commons. His words were confirmed by the Deputy Chief of Defense Staff of the Kingdom's Armed Forces, Robert Magowan, the Daily Telegraph reports.
Failure to provide more funding for its armed forces puts the country at a disadvantage, the officer says. In his opinion, the amount that Britain currently spends on ammunition does not correspond to the threats it faces.
The publication explains that this statement was made in the Parliamentary Defense Committee after the United Kingdom Defense Minister Grant Shapps informed lawmakers about the unsuccessful attempt to increase the military budget. According to him, he asked Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Finance Minister Jeremy Hunt to increase defense spending.
Shapps has previously said the UK needs to bring defense spending to 3% of GDP, up from just over 2% today. At the same time, the kingdom’s military budget for 2024 for the first time in history exceeded 50 billion pounds sterling, or $64 billion.
Several other officials confirmed to the publication that Britain's armed forces have been "drained" since 2010 and "in a peer conflict... would have exhausted its capabilities after the first few months of fighting."
