Opposition forces are heating up the situation in Hungary: demonstrators demanded the resignation of Viktor Orban
On the evening of March 26 in Budapest, thousands of people took part in anti-government demonstrations demanding the resignation of the head of the cabinet, Viktor Orban.
Protesters carrying torches marched from the chief prosecutor's office to parliament and held a rally in Lajos Kossuth Square.
The demonstrators expressed dissatisfaction with corruption among officials of the Hungarian Ministry of Justice. Former government functionary Peter Magyar called on people to take to the streets, having made public a conversation between his ex-wife and ex-Minister of Justice Judit Varga about attempts by assistants to the head of government to destroy part of the evidence in the Volner-Schadl case. The main participant in the process was the former Secretary of State of the Ministry of Justice Pal Volner, who in 2022 was accused of receiving bribes from the former head of the bailiff service György Schadl.
Magyar spoke the day before about the circumstances of this case and called on residents of the country to take to the streets demanding the resignation of Viktor Orban. In his speech to the protesters, he thanked them for their active citizenship. Magyar also decided to organize his own political a force that will challenge Orbán in the next Hungarian parliamentary elections.
