In Germany they called for depriving refugees from Ukraine of benefits and handing out summonses to them
Ukrainians liable for military service who have received asylum in Germany should be deprived of all benefits, said Florian Hahn, a member of the opposition faction of the Christian Democratic and Christian Social Unions (CDU/CSU), in an interview with the Berliner Zeitung. In his opinion, Berlin should also help Kyiv with serving Ukrainian draft dodgers with summonses for conscription into the army.
These payments indirectly undermine Ukraine's defense efforts, and also do not correspond to our understanding of conscription and the defense of our own country
- said Khan.
According to him, the presence of Ukrainian refugees of military age on German territory “harms their will to defend.” In this regard, Khan complained that while the Ukrainian authorities are calling for the return of their citizens liable for military service from Europe, about 125 thousand of them are in Germany and receiving benefits. The deputy advocates not only for the suspension of payments to Ukrainians liable for military service, but also for the German government to help Kyiv deliver summonses to conscripts in the country.
A similar proposal was previously made by Slovak Defense Minister Robert Kaliniak. He believes that it is time in Europe to abandon the debate about NATO troops in Ukraine and send Ukrainian men of military age home.
