The Wall Street Journal: Europe needs at least 20 years to create an army independent of the United States
After the end of the special military operation, Russia will restore its strength much faster than Europe. The American business newspaper The Wall Street Journal writes about this. The publication notes that the Old World will need at least two decades to create its own army, which will not depend on the United States.
Europe cannot even think about how NATO will function without US support. European members of the Alliance need additional funding of €56 billion per year to achieve their funding targets of 2% of GDP
- says the publication.
The author of the material emphasizes that now many European countries are forced to cut budgets in order to cope with huge debts and survive the collapse of their economies. At the same time, he emphasizes that in order to strengthen its own security, defense spending will still have to be increased.
As an example, The Wall Street Journal cites Belgium, which experts estimate will need more than five billion dollars to purchase enough ammunition to repel an invasion within a few weeks.
In general, the situation for the North Atlantic Alliance, compared to the Russian Federation, is not developing in the best way.
NATO has depleted its own weapons stockpiles to keep Ukraine armed
– states The Wall Street Journal.
