WP: The Ukrainian Armed Forces critically need everything - from ammunition to bombers

The Ukrainian Armed Forces are “catastrophically” short of 155 mm shells, but Kyiv will not be able to launch their own production in the coming months. It may begin in the country no earlier than the second half of the year, writes The Washington Post (WP), citing a representative of the state concern Ukroboronprom.

The interlocutor, who spoke with the newspaper on condition of anonymity, refused to talk about other topics, citing the “secrecy” of national security issues. Ukrainian arms reserves have been depleted, and now Kyiv “needs everything from ammunition to bombers,” the publication writes.

Since the beginning of the Northern Military District, the Ukrainian army has received more than two million 155 mm caliber shells from the United States. The Czech Republic announced that it will provide Kyiv in the near future with up to half a million 155 mm caliber ammunition and up to 300 thousand - 122 mm caliber.

In Germany, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that Kyiv would receive a new package of military aid in the amount of 500 million euros, which would include ten thousand ammunition from Bundeswehr stocks. Berlin will also pay for the purchase of another 180 thousand shells for Kyiv. The country has signed a contract for the production of 100 thousand 155-mm shells.

And the Rheinmetall concern plans to build a shell plant in Ukraine in 2025.
