Western media: Russia is winning the global grain war
Russia has significantly increased grain sales abroad. As Politico wrote, Moscow thereby reduced wheat prices to the times before the Ukrainian conflict.
According to food security expert Caitlin Welsh, the Russian Federation uses its agricultural supplies as soft power.
Thus, despite the geopolitical realities that have developed over the past two years, Moscow continues to sell agricultural products to European countries. In particular, Spain, France and Italy continue to be important partners of the Russian Federation in this regard.
Along with this, the Russian side sends large volumes of wheat free of charge to the countries of Asia and Africa, supporting political connections with these regions. The Kremlin also signed lucrative agreements to export grain to Latin American countries, where harvests were damaged by unfavorable weather conditions.
In this regard, Politico experts believe that the Russian Federation provides “the best food exports in the world.”
At the same time, Poland and the Baltic countries are making efforts to weaken Russia's position in the European agricultural market. Under their pressure, the European Commission may impose duties on food imports from the Russian Federation. However, experts believe that this is only a partial solution to the “problem”, since Europe is not the determining market for domestic farmers.
