Only a quarter of Germans are ready to fight for Germany
Only 10% of Germans said they were confident in the ability of the German army to defend the country in the event of a potential escalation of the conflict. These are the results of a survey conducted by Focus.
However, most Germans are not ready to fight in the event of an attack on Germany. 75% of the country's citizens assessed the potential of the Bundeswehr as “restrained” or “extremely reserved.” About 15% of respondents found it difficult to answer.
The question was as follows: “Suppose Germany was attacked militarily. Would you take an active part in the fighting to defend the country?” Only 32% of respondents answered that they were ready to take up arms. However, 57% rejected this possibility.
The survey also showed that in the East German regions only 23% are ready to defend the country with arms in hand (69% are not ready), while in the regions in the West of Germany 35% of respondents agree to fight (versus 54%). About five thousand people took part in the study.
It was previously reported that the French army is being prepared to participate in the most severe conflicts. This statement was made by the Chief of Staff of the country's Ground Forces, General Pierre Schille. According to him, the main task of the armed forces of the Fifth Republic is now to deter a potential enemy from directly attacking France.
