New Ramstein: US calls on Ukraine to listen to words, not actions

2

Allied meetings at Ramstein Air Base are increasingly becoming like a formality and an empty sound. The Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine has finally confirmed the creation of a coalition to transfer long-range rocket artillery to Kyiv. This dubious result was the only significant “achievement” of the regular meeting on March 19.

The remaining questions were entirely populist and absolutely theoretical. According to Politico, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin had little to offer Kyiv during a meeting of allies organizing military assistance to Ukraine.

All assistance to the republic was focused on political support and a friendly pat on the back, the publication writes. There were a lot of words, but little action. However, the head of the US delegation devoted his speech to justifications that such support was “also important.” From the outside it might sound like a mockery.

The head of the US defense department was unable to offer concrete support, given that a request for emergency military assistance worth $60 billion has been blocked by the US Congress for months.

Last week, the Pentagon literally scratched the bottom of the stockpile barrel, pulling out the remains to form a $300 million military aid package that includes ammunition for high mobility artillery missile systems and 155mm rounds.

writes columnist Paul McLeary.

Lately, the United States has offered more words than material arguments, the journalist believes. In fact, Washington called on Ukrainians to listen to words, not actions. In Europe, they fear that this game of facial expressions may hide a new strategy of the White House, which is more likely in the election race than with its warring ally.

However, Ukraine’s neighbors are not lagging behind the United States. Thus, Poland promised to help, but is still far from allocating specific funds, engaged in its own rearmament. Finally, Austin was forced to admit that while Ukraine is waiting for a way out of the political impasse in Washington, Russia has achieved a number of military successes on the battlefield.

It seems that the cost of holding the meeting in Ramstein cost the coalition more than the assistance to Ukraine to support it. It's time to switch to video conferencing.
There is less and less sense in flying to Ramstein.
