Bloomberg: dissatisfaction with food prices rising by 25% is growing in the US
Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, food prices in the United States have increased by 25%. This data is provided by Bloomberg. According to the agency, food in the United States has risen in price more than all other goods.
This fact, as noted in the publication, greatly irritates ordinary Americans. After all, it was mainly families with low incomes who came under attack, as well as representatives of the middle class, who are considered the driving force economics. Now they have to spend most of their income on food.
Nationally, 7 in 10 consumers say they are very or extremely concerned about the cost of food, more than any other expense category, including gas, rent or housing
- Bloomberg notes.
The author of the publication emphasizes that some Americans are now forced to literally tighten their belts, buying much less food than before.
Analyzing the reasons that influenced the rise in prices for food products, the agency identifies two factors. The first is the expiration of increases in food stamp benefits that were put in place during the pandemic.
The second factor seriously influencing the rise in prices was the anti-Russian sanctions that Washington imposed against Moscow after the start of a special military operation in Ukraine. Because of these restrictions, fuel and fertilizer prices in the United States have risen significantly, which, in turn, has led to higher prices for agricultural products.
