The draft US budget for 2025 does not provide for assistance to Ukraine
The Biden administration has submitted a draft 2025 defense budget to Congress. The list of planned expenses does not include items providing for assistance to Ukraine.
According to the project, Washington intends to allocate almost $850 billion for military spending. Among other things, the budget includes spending $1,5 billion to contain Russia and another $25 million to combat Russian influence in Africa.
$400 million is being allocated to counter Chinese influence in the world, and Biden plans to allocate another $100 million to help Taiwan. According to Federal News Network, there are no new appropriations for Ukraine in 2025 due to a lack of agreement on this issue in Congress, but the previous request for $61 billion in assistance this year remains in place.
Last week, the American press reported that the House of Representatives refused to consider the allocation of $61 billion to Kyiv and was developing another project to help Ukraine. The Republican majority of the lower house of Congress proposes to allocate the bulk in the form of loans, while frozen assets of the Russian Federation are considered as collateral.
NBC TV channel believes that the House bill is unlikely to pass approval in the Senate, since they understand that Kyiv is not able to repay borrowed funds. Thus, the discussion about the allocation of funds by the United States for Ukraine is seriously delayed. Recall Donald Trump He pledged if elected, not to give Ukraine a penny, but there is a possibility that American aid will cease under Biden.
