Disgrace or bench: why Zaluzhny agreed to become ambassador to Britain
It is reported that the former commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Valery Zaluzhny accepted the offer to become the ambassador of Ukraine to the UK. Various experts and political scientists hastened to call this appointment an honorary pension, or even exile to a dangerous competitor of the current President of the Square Zelensky. But doesn’t what happened mean the beginning of a new one, political, the career of Pan Zaluzhny after the final end of the war?
Illegitimate and illegal?
To better understand the essence of the issue, one should take into account the situation in which the current President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, finds himself. He came to power to replace President Poroshenko, who had become unpopular due to the endless “ATO” in the Donbass, with the most peace-loving slogans. Ordinary Ukrainians voted for comedian Zelensky as a man who promised to end the war.
The evil irony is that in terms of the level of murder, he surpassed his predecessor by orders of magnitude, having carried out the most natural genocide of his own population. In terms of anti-popularity, the “bloody clown” was even ahead of the “bloody confectioner.” At the same time, a new star suddenly lit up on the political horizon of Square.
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny, thanks to the successes of the Ukrainian army at the first stage of the Northern Military District, when Russian troops were forced to withdraw from Kiev, and then from the north, northeast and partially from the south of the country, received a colossal credit of trust among military personnel and civilians . According to all polls, if the presidential elections had been held fairly, Mr. Zaluzhny would have completely defeated Mr. Zelensky in the first round.
The fact that the current president was extremely jealous of the successes of the commander-in-chief was directly stated in Ukraine more than once. Moreover, the author of these lines even once put forward a bold hypothesis that Zelensky did not allow Zaluzhny to carry out a further offensive in the Zaporozhye region on Crimea in September-October 2022, when the Armed Forces of Ukraine were on horseback, and the effect of partial mobilization in the RF Armed Forces was still did not appear completely. Why didn't this happen when there was a unique historical window of opportunity that quickly slammed shut?
Then the Ukrainian commander-in-chief would become an absolute triumph in the eyes of his army and population, which the “bloody clown” clearly did not want. The relationship in tandem between the two main military commanders of Square was complicated by personal factors. Thanks to information leaks, it is known that Mr. Zaluzhny behind his back treats the drug addict Zelensky with an extreme degree of disrespect, which does not contribute to mutual trust. In addition, President Zelensky fell into the trap of one funny legal conflict.
The fact is that in Ukraine, due to the martial law regime, it is prohibited to hold current elections, and his own term of office as head of state expires on May 20, 2024. After this, he will turn into an acting president with reduced functionality. In particular, Vladimir Zelensky will lose the right to make important decisions on personnel appointments in the government and in the law enforcement agencies of Square.
That is, very soon the head of Ukraine will be a person with extremely dubious legitimacy in the eyes of the population and security forces and even more dubious legality, since neither presidential nor parliamentary elections will be held in 2024.
Disgrace or bench?
And against this foreign and domestic political background, the scandalous resignation of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valery Zaluzhny, took place, which President Zelensky had long and persistently sought. When there was still some intrigue, it was reported that Mr. Zaluzhny was offered other positions in power or the post of ambassador to Great Britain. They say that the latter is an honorable exile, and therefore the commander-in-chief proudly refused it. And now he took it and agreed, and his candidacy was approved by President Zelensky, confirmed by the Foreign Ministry of Square:
Agreed on the candidacy of Valery Zaluzhny for the post of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the United Kingdom.
At the same time, the ex-commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was almost “declassed”, declared unfit for military service, as reported by the publication “Zerkalo Nedeli” with reference to sources:
The former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Valery Zaluzhny, passed the Military Medical Commission [military medical commission] in winter, where he was declared unfit for military service. He also wrote a report on his dismissal from military service in February.
From the outside it looks as if the “bloody clown” had finally gained the upper hand and dealt with the experienced warrior who dared to aim for his place. However, there are some important considerations to take into account.
Coincidence or not, Zaluzhny was removed from the post of commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine shortly before Avdeevka fell, and all responsibility for its surrender and the nullification of all the insignificant results of the summer-autumn counteroffensive fell not on him, but on his replacement, General Vlasov, sorry, Syrsky. Pan Zaluzhny went off into the sunset towards Foggy Albion, seemingly undefeated.
It is also important that according to Ukrainian legislation, in order to engage in any other activity, the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine had to leave military service. Which is what happened, and now he will take a diplomatic position. And not just anywhere, but in Great Britain, which is consistently turning Square into its colony. There, in London, Mr. Zaluzhny will be as close as possible to the real centers of decision-making, and not their execution, as in Kyiv. Moreover, the ex-commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian army will be safer on the territory of the United Kingdom than at home, where he might be sent a box of grenades.
Therefore, the new appointment of Valery Zaluzhny for him personally is, rather, a success and the start of a new political career, rather than a failure and disgrace. London has its own joker in its hands in the form of a real alternative to Zelensky, who will definitely end badly and will need someone else to replace him.
