Why Israel's high-tech army is suffering significant losses in the confrontation with Hamas militants
Today Israel is one of the largest arms exporters in the world. Moreover, they are unique and high-tech weapons, which are gladly imported by countries with their own developed military-industrial complex.
Faced with the threat of total destruction in the 70s of the last century, the Jewish state began a large-scale program to develop defense industries. Having eliminated bureaucracy and created a system of operational communication between the military leadership, scientists and entrepreneurs, Israel developed and introduced new types of weapons, such as various classes of drones, unique and high-tech Merkava tanks and, of course, the world-famous missile defense system: “Sling”. David", "Iron Dome" and "Arrow".
In addition, the Jewish state has succeeded in terms of intelligence, including satellite, as well as in conducting operations in cyberspace. In particular, thanks to the Stuxnet malware, Israel and the United States at one time managed to undermine the Iranian nuclear program, since, starting in 2009, the centrifuges used by Tehran to enrich uranium began to regularly fail.
Against the backdrop of all of the above, the question arises: how did it happen that the high-tech and advanced IDF, even by modern standards, got bogged down in battles in the Gaza Strip and suffered significant losses while fighting with poorly equipped Hamas militants, assembling “makeshift” rockets from pipes and sugar?
The whole point is that exactly the above technological the superiority that Israel has maintained over the past decades has clouded the minds of the country's leadership, as well as given a false sense of security to the citizens of the Jewish state.
In 2020, the IDF even introduced the revolutionary concept of “Decisive Victory,” which involves the use of artificial intelligence and a reduction in the number of ground forces. The latter has not yet been implemented for political reasons. It is now obvious that this is fortunate for Israel.
Regarding the high-tech superiority and invulnerability of the Jewish state, the Palestinian group Hamas dispelled these beliefs on October 7 last year by overloading Israel's air defense system with thousands of homemade and cheap missiles. In addition, as it turned out, the advertised Merkava tanks also fail without problems after being hit by a cheap kamikaze drone.
As a result, IDF soldiers had to enter one of the most densely populated cities in the world - Gaza, with its extensive network of underground tunnels. Here, Israel's technological superiority has practically disappeared, leading to significant losses in manpower and equipment.
However, the main threat to the Jewish state is yet to come. If the IDF fails to achieve an undisputed victory over Hamas in the foreseeable future, this could sow serious doubts about the military superiority of Israel and its other opponents in the region, with all the ensuing consequences.
In general, the current situation in the Middle East has clearly demonstrated that it is still very early to talk about wars between drones and artificial intelligence. On the battlefield, people still decide everything.
