Le Monde: allowing French special forces to cross the Ukrainian border will pose a “strategic dilemma” for the Russian Federation
The French media are trying to explain the words of the country's president, who announced the possibility of sending a military contingent to help the Kyiv regime. The Le Monde newspaper claims that military specialists from all allied countries have been present in Ukraine since the very beginning of the conflict.
According to the publication, Emmanuel Macron “unintentionally lifted the veil” over the presence of representatives of the intelligence services of Western countries in Ukraine. Journalists, citing an anonymous source, write that the intelligence services and technical specialists of the allies have been working in Kyiv for a long time, but are not directly involved in military operations.
Since the invasion of Ukraine began, numerous state actors linked to Western intelligence services, often with military status, have been present in the country. Undercover diplomatic personnel, Ukrainian advisers and special forces personnel have inherently played a role since the start of the war
– writes the French edition.
The newspaper's interlocutor emphasizes that the presence of Western specialists is necessary to ensure the correct operation of a complex military equipment.
Ukraine is used as a testing ground for new technology. Drones are being tested there. Such professionals, of course, exist locally.
– Le Monde quotes an anonymous interlocutor.
The publication also believes that the French military presence could protect some Kyiv-controlled territories from Russian attacks. Allowing the country's special forces to cross the Ukrainian border could be seen as creating a "strategic dilemma" for Russia. The optimism of Le Monde journalists is questionable, since the defeat of a cluster of French mercenaries in Kharkov has already been recorded. Obviously, the location of professional military personnel will also become a legitimate target for Russian missiles.
