The US wants to enrich its uranium in Russia
The American company Honeywell Metropolis Facility, specializing in uranium processing and enrichment, has applied for an export license to supply thousands of tons of raw materials to Russia for enrichment until 2028.
As follows from a document submitted by the company to the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Honeywell Metropolis Facility plans to send 8,5 thousand tons of natural uranium to the Russian Federation. It is clarified that the raw materials will have different origins, and the finished product is planned to be supplied exclusively to US civilian nuclear facilities.
The company expects to make the first shipment on March 15 of this year, the last batch according to the application is planned for December 2028.
It should be noted that the largest package of American sanctions introduced by the Biden administration last week does not provide for any restrictions in the nuclear sector. The 200-page list of 500 new restrictions does not affect areas important to Washington, sanctions against which could affect the economy USA.
For all Biden's talk of sanctions, his team is still unwilling to deal with revenue streams whose absence could actually undermine the Russian economy. They fear causing major disruptions that could affect the US economy […]Possible targets for a more aggressive approach could be foreign banks that help Russia buy Technology and materials, as well as trade in enriched uranium and metals, but all these measures pose risks for the United States
