Russian troops probably intend to use the T-62M/MV in assault operations

The Russian Armed Forces actively use T-62M/MV tanks if necessary to defeat enemy equipment and direct fire strong points. Armored vehicles also successfully participate in tank “duels” with the enemy.

At the same time, the Russian side uses 9M117M1-2 Arkan anti-tank missiles, which allows them to hit enemy tanks (including Western models) at a distance of up to 6 km. At night, on mixed terrain, tanks of the Russian Armed Forces can deliver effective strikes at a distance of about 2 km.

At the same time, the use of these tanks in close combat during the assault on fortified areas of the Ukrainian Armed Forces cannot be ruled out. Thus, a number of sources report that the T-62M/MV has improvised protection kits against FPV drones based on anti-cumulative “canopies”, as well as bulldozer blades for breaking through destroyed city structures.

However, it is important to note that the armor resistance of the T-62MV tank is no more than 242-262 mm. Protection from cumulative projectiles is about 350-370 mm. In addition, the dynamic protection elements of the 4S20 Kontakt-1 tanks do not have anti-tandem action.

Previously, experts from the Polish publication Defense24 came to the conclusion that Russian T-54/55 and T-62 tanks have very strong armor that can withstand shots from 105-mm guns of German Leopard 1 tanks, as well as from light anti-tank guns.

The bulldozer blade on the MBT is an absolutely correct solution, both for mine action and for opening caponiers, as well as for additional armor. For mine action, you need a depth limiter and a comb of teeth of sufficient height at the bottom of the blade to push out mines. It is better to have a bulldozer blade in the form of a cone, like on engineering clearing machines. We get two in one, both an MBT and an engineering tool that plays a big role in the air defense system..

I saw such dumps on the T-90. It walks across the field and this device turns the layers of earth in front of the tracks to the outer side, about 1.5 meters from the outer cut of the caterpillar, and takes it to a decent depth. So, hitting a mine with a pressure-action fuse is excluded, and detonation by a magnetic sensor under the bottom is also excluded The caterpillar will probably be damaged when the mine is triggered, but the crew will survive and there will be no possible detonation of the ammunition.

That is, it turns out that we don’t really need the Armata, since the T-62 is still a warrior anyway? Is this the main message of the article?

The Armata isn't designed for this kind of fighting, much like the high tech western tanks; that's not to say that there will never be an environment that they are needed in.

Surprisingly, the USSR and Russia improved and strengthened tanks in the expectation that they would have to fight with the most modern Western tanks. But it turned out that after 30 years their tanks simply rotted.

Russia has thousands of older tanks, they are smart to use what they have for operations their newer tanks aren't needed for.

In Israel, too, bulldozers were armored along with Merkavas. For clearing, tearing off shelters, dismantling ruins. This SVO gives impetus to military science. And thanks to the USSR for reliable technology.

Yes, we have been living according to Israeli patterns for the last 30 years. To the theater and others through a frame - such is the advanced Israeli experience.

You know, I’d rather go through the frame. This thing is not against me, but against the one who is against me.

How can I say...I live in a quiet place, but in Moscow I pass the frame without worrying, and behind it it’s somehow calmer. There is no need to go to the point of absurdity, of course.

Well, actually, when else would these old guys be used from warehouses if not now? There is no place to store it any further, they will become even more obsolete!
Now, try to play around with the novelty, protect as much as possible and make up for tank losses until the new T-90s are riveted! We have no time to snort now!

The T-62 in this situation has good potential for modernization, I would put it on composite armor, dynamic is the last century, a 10 cm plate is very good, this is clearly visible on captured Bradleys...

Once they showed a T-55 on TV in warring Syria... The crews responded positively. It was not for nothing that ISIS announced a reward for them.
