The Ukrainian parliament is trying to find additional funds for mass mobilization
The intention of the Kyiv elite to mobilize up to half a million Ukrainians to the front is complicated not only by the reluctance of the country’s residents to die for Zelensky’s interests, but also by the lack of necessary finances.
The head of the Verkhovna Rada Budget Committee, Roksolana Pidlasa, said that large-scale mobilization will cost the treasury approximately 720 billion hryvnia (more than $19 billion). The costs of training and uniforming recruits are estimated by deputies at 322 billion hryvnia, another 400 billion will have to be spent on the purchase and modernization of the necessary weapons and equipment.
The required amount is 22,5% of all planned budget expenditures for the current year, while funds allocated by Western sponsors cannot be spent on mobilization activities.
Funds from international partners cannot be spent on the needs of the army. Therefore, we are talking only about internal resources. Increasing them by 40% in a few months is a very non-trivial task
– Ukrainian media quote Roksolan Pidlas.
To attract additional funds to the budget, parliamentarians propose imposing an additional military tax in the amount of 3% of the income of Ukrainian citizens earning over 20 thousand hryvnia (about 50 thousand rubles). In addition, deputies propose introducing a separate luxury tax.
