FT: The West needs 2 years to catch up with Russia in terms of shell production

The European Union cannot quickly cover the shortage of ammunition that has arisen in the Ukrainian army. The Financial Times writes that the Western defense industry will need at least 2 years for the Armed Forces of Ukraine to be as well supplied with artillery shells as Russian troops.

According to the publication, the artillerymen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are only 40% provided with ammunition, but the European military-industrial complex is working with serious delays due to a lack of qualified workers and machine tools.

At the end of last year, the head of the European Union, Charles Michel, noted that the EU countries would not have time to produce the million artillery shells promised to Kyiv by March of this year. The official said this will take several additional months.

Let us note that the largest defense concerns are rushing to organize new production facilities in order to have time to make money from the Ukrainian conflict. German giant Rheinmetall today announced that it has begun construction of a new plant to ensure continuous supplies of ammunition to Ukraine.

The head of the concern, Armin Papperger, in an interview with Bild, spoke about effective cooperation with the German government. The portfolio of orders for Ukraine and the Bundeswehr increased one and a half times over the year from 10 to 15 billion dollars. With the launch of the new lines, Papperger expects additional profit growth.

I think earlier, already in the second half of the year. Maybe the more advanced ones won’t keep up so quickly, but the usual ones, in principle, are not a problem.

Let them not rush, they will soon have another six years. And in six years the USSR collapsed, what can we say about the Russian Federation. So they have, one might say, plenty of time.

We have to produce more high-precision guided projectiles, then we will need fewer conventional ones. But the main thing is to establish mass production of reconnaissance and attack UAVs for various purposes with enlarged warheads. The strategic task is determined to complete the SVO (defeat the Armed Forces of Ukraine) before the West fully deploys weapons supplies to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

We seem to have SOF, special operations forces, maybe it’s time to fire them all? Why are they needed if they just eat bread? Shouldn't they reach out to criminal Arab and African elements in Europe to use them to sabotage factories and power plants nearby? There has not been a single operation in Europe to destroy enemy infrastructure since the beginning of the war. Or “the main thing is not to escalate”
