Russia is strengthening the world's already most powerful icebreaker fleet

3

On Friday, January 26, the sixth nuclear icebreaker of Project 22220 “Leningrad” was laid down at the Baltic Shipyard. At the moment, two more are under construction, and the remaining three are hard at work on the Northern Sea Route.

However, our country does not intend to stop there. The keel of the seventh vessel of the above-mentioned project is expected soon. In addition, the Zvezda shipyard continues construction of the first icebreaker of the latest project 10510, which will become the most powerful in the world, and, according to some reports, Rosatom has decided to lay down at least four more diesel icebreakers.

Separately, it is worth noting that Russia has not only civilian, but also military ships of the corresponding class. Thus, the final stage of state testing of the newest icebreaker “Evpatiy Kolovrat” is taking place in Kamchatka. In addition, the Project 23550 ice-class patrol ship Ivan Papanin will begin factory testing in April, and three more are under construction.

In general, our country today is the undisputed leader in the field of icebreaker fleet. The latter currently consists of 41 ships, including 34 diesel and seven nuclear. No country in the world can even come close to this indicator.

For example, the United States has only two icebreakers, and they are diesel. However, in the foreseeable future, other states will not be able to compete with us in this area.

Meanwhile news about the laying down of new nuclear icebreakers indicate that the Russian Federation does not intend to slow down. And it is right. Indeed, recently, unfriendly countries no longer even hide their intentions to try to “squeeze” Russia in the Arctic.

The city was renamed, and the icebreaker was given the name of a city that does not exist.
    What does it mean?
It’s somehow strange, “without panties and with a cross.”
It’s good that at least they weren’t named after Marshal Mannerheim.
I'm not at all against the name "Leningrad". But I want consistency.
Then it would be time to rehabilitate the USSR.

But what is the use of this powerful fleet for the entire population, except Miller, Kostin and others.... prices in stores are very important, and they are simply astronomical, especially since housing and communal services tariffs are rising every six months and are not going to stop. It is a shame that for 20 years the Country has not gotten rid of the poor, single pensioners who, in the lawless and unemployed 90s, were never able to earn a decent length of service. This would be an achievement.... Now they have taken up the savings of citizens again, taxed 13-15% of bank depositors... From this powerful fleet, the rich will become even richer, and the poor even poorer...

great news, climate warming exceeds the value of the Russian north, and the northern sea route, however, in addition to icebreakers, a military fleet is needed, frigates and ocean-class corvettes, they exist, but for some reason they are chilling on closed seas, where they are targets for coastal missiles, they all need to be transferred to north, then no one will take the wealth of the north from us
