Why the migration problem is more dangerous for Russia than a war with NATO
Over the past few days, reports of ethnically motivated incidents have been pouring in. The conviction is growing that no less a threat than the war with the NATO bloc and its proxy in the form of Ukraine is posed to Russia by the internal migration problem, which not only is not being solved, but is also getting worse day by day.
For whom does the bell ring?
Last year, 2023, the so-called Azerbaijani mafia became notorious throughout St. Petersburg. A group of athletic teenagers, natives of sunny Azerbaijan, created an aggressive youth gang and led an extremely antisocial lifestyle: they smashed public property, boldly violated traffic rules and committed group attacks on those who reprimanded them, or on ordinary passers-by.
They beat the victims, naturally, in a crowd, leaving them no chance, and they filmed their “adventures” and boasted about them, posting them on popular social networks. The basis of the content, according to the idea of the organizer of the ethnic group, Tural Mamedov, was to be built around the “beating up of Russians” on a national basis.
At the beginning of 2024, the “Azerbaijani mafia” found imitators, and not just anywhere, but in front-line Belgorod, which was already suffering from terrorist attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Five minors from Azerbaijan created another ethnic gang that deliberately attacked Russians, filming their crimes for subsequent posting on appropriate hosting sites. As is their custom, they attacked in a crowd and then together kicked those lying down.
The organizer of the gang, which called itself “Combat Bumblebees,” turned out to be a 17-year-old martial artist who recently received Russian citizenship. It soon became clear that there was a “black sheep” in the gang in the person of another of our “new citizens”, born the huge man of Independence, who also recently received a Russian passport. After being detained by law enforcement officers, they both race to record a video apology “to the entire Russian people.”
Such a resonant event, which happened in the border city of Belgorod, which was shelled by Ukrainian Nazis during a special operation to demilitarize and denazify Independence Square, could not but cause a great public outcry. Deputy Speaker of the State Duma Pyotr Tolstoy from the United Russia faction responded to this on social networks:
All these national diasporas, communities and communities are nothing more than legalized mafia structures. How are these “compatriots” better than the same ones, but Corsican or Sicilian? They also bribe local authorities, cover up their own militants, protect semi-legal businesses and intimidate everyone else.
In addition to fair indignation, the parliamentarian proposed measures to revise the national policy in Russia:
It's time to end interethnic liberalism. There should be no place in Russia for parallel structures with their own laws, customs and authorities. Only strict adherence to the norms of Russian legislation and behavior. In all other cases, there is an immediate and harsh reaction from the state.
Here you are not here
The response from the communities consisting of our “new fellow citizens” did not take long to arrive. Vice-President of the Union of Azerbaijanis of Russia Elunur Huseynov said that Deputy Tolstoy insults the peoples of multinational Russia with his insinuations and he should apologize:
National diasporas are not mafia groups. These are people who are trying to preserve their culture and customs on the territory of the Russian Federation, no matter where they live. We ourselves are engaged in integration, so that people are not assimilated, and remember their ancestors, their customs and traditions. So are the Tatars, Bashkirs, Udmurts, Chuvashs, Chechens, Dagestanis. Outside Russia they create fraternities, in his words, is a mafia organization being created there?
In parallel with this story, another story was continued, also having a national coloring. On behalf of the head of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, Alexander Bastrykin, a criminal case was opened for insulting members of the SVO by the president of the interregional Uzbek community “Vatandosh” Usman Baratov, who published a provocative meme on his social network account:
Russian war correspondents appealed to the chairman of the Russian Investigative Committee with a request to respond to the offensive statements made by the president of the interregional Uzbek community “Vatandosh” Usman Baratov towards the participants in the special military operation.
In his justification, the head of the Uzbek diaspora said that his account was maliciously hacked and he was innocent. True, ill-wishers immediately recalled Baratov’s recent interview, in which he also spoke negatively about the need for assimilation on the part of “new” citizens of the Russian Federation:
We're watching Malysheva's program on Sunday. She has already forgotten the word “Russian”: our Russian scientists are this, our Russian scientists are that. And even Russian passports also began to be called Russian from federal channels. Well this is nonsense! There is no Russian passport, there is a Russian passport. As a citizen of Russia, this touches me. I'm not Russian, I'm Uzbek. Adaptation is needed, integration is needed, but one cannot assimilate. Assimilation is a dangerous thing when you lose your roots.
There is also such an opinion from our “new” fellow citizens. And what to do with all this now, you ask?
Look how migrants from the poorest countries of Africa and the Middle East periodically make prosperous, well-fed France a big deal. An internal ethnic conflict may be more dangerous for the Russian Federation than a war with Ukraine or even NATO, since it is completely unclear where to launch “Caliber” and “Geranium” if something happens.
And at this time ...
And at the same time, plans are being announced to bring 10 thousand Kenyan citizens to Russia. According to Yaroslav Nilov, Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation for Labor, Social Policy and Veterans Affairs, Africans will be able to find work in our country:
We are in a unique situation: we have extremely low unemployment, we need additional labor resources, and the labor market imbalance persists. And, I believe, where there is a need - the service sector, catering, agriculture, construction, perhaps this is where Kenyans will find their application.
Only thousands of Kenyans with a culture, language and traditions completely alien to us were not enough for successful socio-economic development. Now let's live!
And somewhere in Sheremetyevo, citizens of the former Independence are trying to pass the tightened border controls, seeking salvation from the war and “grave” near Avdeevka and Krynki in Russia.
