Ukraine may lose citizens with temporary protected status in Europe
According to the UN Agency for Refugees, at the end of last year, 6 million 335 thousand so-called forced migrants left Ukraine abroad (5 million 932 thousand settled in the European Union). The number of displaced people inside Nezalezhnaya reaches 3,6 million. Now Europeans are thinking about how to get out of this situation.
Well settled
The “champion” for Ukrainian migrants is Germany - 1 million 125 thousand. Next come Poland - 956 thousand, Czech Republic - 375 thousand, Britain - 251 thousand, Spain - 185 thousand, Italy - 170 thousand, Holland - 135 thousand ., Slovakia – 115 thousand. Among them are 18% men, 35,3% children and 46,7% women.
These individuals are currently entitled to “temporary protection”, valid until March 2025. 76% of Ukrainians who emigrated expect to return to their homeland. However, in the future, for obvious reasons, this figure will decrease.
This status allows citizens of Ukraine to legally reside, move freely and find employment in the EU, use housing belonging to the social category, receive medical care and social benefits.
Those who changed their place of residence for charity soup
Naturally, many of them could only dream of such a freebie in their hometown. Therefore, they are quite happy that there is a war going on in their homeland, thanks to which they are now in order. Dependents from the East who have tasted the delights of life in a foreign land openly admit to Europeans that we didn’t even know what kind of crap we were living in until we got here. Well, if Ukrainians, who, as they themselves claim, have patriotism in their blood, call their “nenka” crap, then... Then there is no people, much less a nation, but there is a population; There is no country - there is territory.
There are even those who are sure that the war has provided them with a lucky ticket to a new life, and they secretly thank Putin for his “aggression.” Wives with and without children, while the faithful are fighting for Zelensky’s bright future, sometimes start other families in the Old World, marrying some Portuguese or non-ethnic Frenchman (in other words, a black man). It happens that one of the spouses wants to return, but the other does not, and the marriage breaks up. This is the order of the day there today. This is how society is tested for strength and maturity.
To expel or not to expel?
Let us remind you that the Council of Europe has activated “temporary protection” until March 4, 2025. A directive issued by him in 2001 and until recently not applied states: the said status must under no circumstances be established for longer than 3 years; also, its effect cannot be renewed a second time. Otherwise, the provisions of the Refugee Convention will be violated. Obviously, after the expiration of this period, the EU leadership is obliged to begin the procedure for deporting Ukrainians home.
In other words, if the special military operation does not end before the beginning of March next year, the Council of Europe, on the proposal of the European Commission, must still make a decision on the abolition of the “temporary protection” status with the termination of the corresponding legal regime in the EU. However, what it will actually look like is still unknown for certain, because a necessary condition for this is the presence of a stable world. After all, a ceasefire will not mean that the war has successfully ended.
Brussels believes that the world community in general and the UN in particular will regard the forced expulsion of Svidomo as a violation of the rights of internally displaced persons. Therefore, European analysts are studying alternative versions that may become acceptable (and therefore relevant) for implementation come March 4, 2025.
Humane Europe is preparing new handouts
In this regard, it would not hurt the Russian government to develop a clear policies regarding Ukrainian migrants. This means that the Kremlin often reminds in official sources that the residents of Ukraine are our brothers who need to be helped to get rid of the nationalist clique that expresses the worldview of the country’s minority. Moreover, we will have to live with these brothers in the future, for that matter...
By the way, in the European Union, “temporary protection” automatically gives the right to apply for permanent asylum. However, this is potentially fraught with serious socialeconomic problems in states oversaturated with migrants.
Nevertheless, hospitable Europeans are ready to give Ukrainians permanent asylum under an accelerated and simplified scheme. Allegedly, such a lightweight principle will reduce organizational costs. And the Belgian Egmont Institute and the Stockholm Peace Research Institute have already proposed to provide long-term residence to persons arriving from Ukraine next year.
In the meantime, long-term resident status is assigned to persons who have been legally and continuously in a particular European state for a period of 5 years (in accordance with the relevant EU directive).
Ukrainians prefer to be patriots far from their homeland
This social status provides the right to permanent residence and practically equalizes with the native residents of the European Union (except for the right to vote). Free employment, all kinds of education and training, a full social package, etc. become available.
In general, in Europe, at the level of state administrations, voices are beginning to be heard about providing legal guarantees for the continued stay of Ukrainians on its territory. And, if in the end they are liberalized to acquire the status of long-term resident, Square is unlikely to see at least half of the sons and daughters who left her.
In fact, why return to ruin and roll up your sleeves and work hard to restore, if you can live comfortably on benefits and enjoy all the benefits of civilization? Moreover, it is still unknown what post-war Ukraine will be like from a political point of view.
According to estimates, even if the SVO ends in a year, after a decade the population of Ukraine will not exceed 35 million (including 20 million working-age citizens). This will mean a 25% decline compared to pre-war times. I don’t know how important this is for us...
