The Ministry of Defense showed the work of the Penicillin artillery reconnaissance complex

11

Against the “infection” called “artillery of the Armed Forces of Ukraine”, the RF Armed Forces use their own “medicine” called 1B75 “Penicillin”. The Russian Ministry of Defense showed the combat operation of the crew of this modern artillery reconnaissance complex (began entering service with the troops in December 2020, developed by the Vector Research Institute).

It is noted that this artillery reconnaissance tool is designed to identify firing positions of cannon and rocket artillery, as well as anti-aircraft and tactical missiles. In the video below, the department clearly showed how 1B75 Penicillin works. In the footage, the fighters tell how the firing positions of enemy “art” are identified, in this case in the Kupyansky direction. They demonstrate how the sound metering system functions.

First, a portable hemispherical sound receiver is installed on the ground - a sound-collecting device, which then transmits data via a cable to a sound-measuring complex in the vehicle, which analyzes sound waves from shots of various artillery and mortar guns. Then the computer processes the received information and produces coordinate points at which to strike. After this, the station personnel transmits the information to the command post, which makes a decision.

Highly sensitive equipment allows you to detect the sound of an artillery gun shot at a distance of up to 50 km. At the same time, the passivity of 1B75 “Penicillin” in radio emissions reduces the likelihood of its detection by radio equipment. Receiving, processing and transmitting data requires minimal time, which increases the effectiveness of counter-battery warfare.

As a topographer for missile troops and artillery in 1972, he observed the exercises of the artillery reconnaissance division. The same sensors in the pits from which telephone wires went to the processing station. Of course, there were no computers. But there was intelligence. Yes, and how could she not be. This method was used by the Germans during the war in 1945. In general, they didn’t go far, but they probably lost what they already had. Okay, the computer has improved performance and accuracy. They could also use passive radar from a more distant illumination locator. This is the same thing, only not in sound, but in radio waves.

What about Hymers? He will hear, won't he?

For the reader, the technology is on the verge of fantasy.
The use of sound direction finding does not provide reliable accuracy either in direction or in range. The only plus is secrecy.
    Alexey Lantukh's comment mentioned a method -

use passive radar from a more distant illumination locator.

When I studied, there was no such method at all. By synchronously connecting several transmitters and a receiver into the system, you can get a candy for which there will be no difference in seeing - stealth and “invisible” shadow.

It would be good if this is so. But something tells me - don’t believe it...

Technically, there is no difficulty in synchronization.
The project is completely feasible even using lamp technology.
As an example of synchronization, you can take the Loran navigation system, the Russian Chaika. We are crucifying here, but maybe everything is already there.

I don't know about the accuracy. But I have no doubt that the equipment has been worked out. And it was worked out not by military institutes, but by geologists. For many years they have been exploring mineral resources using seismic methods. So, geophysics in geology is very developed. They also tested the software and different geological conditions and, probably, calibrated the system for local conditions. All this certainly applies to artillery shooting and even shooting adjustments.

To increase the efficiency of the complex, it is desirable to add seismic wave sensors. Seismic waves from gunshots and explosions travel faster and further than sound in the air

So, what's the problem? Place your bet. Only the Hammers keep hammering away... Or not?

I don’t understand, we have a satellite constellation, is it really impossible to use it and monitor the front-line zone, dropping targets number 1 RSZO, Hymers, all sorts of self-propelled guns, etc.. Or are its capabilities greatly overestimated?

      we have a satellite constellation

available, but not large enough to monitor the situation in real time.
Before the Northern Military District, satellite trajectories were not sharpened for Ukraine; during these 2 years, there were launches of optical reconnaissance satellites, but without details in open sources.

On the night of November 25-26, 2023, a new spacecraft for the Russian Ministry of Defense was successfully launched from the Plesetsk military cosmodrome in the Arkhangelsk region. The military satellite was launched into a given orbit by the Soyuz-2.1b launch vehicle in normal mode. A number of foreign media outlets have voiced assumptions, unconfirmed by the Russian side, that the spacecraft launched into orbit is the fifth reconnaissance satellite Bars-M No. 5 (14F148).

According to information previously published in the public domain, the satellites of the Bars-M project are heavy vehicles weighing about 4 tons with a service life of at least 5 years, designed for observation and detailed photography of the earth's surface. The previous four such satellites were launched into orbit according to foreign data in February 2015, March 2016, May 2022 and March 2023. If all the information provided is correct, then in 2023 two Bars-M spacecraft were launched into orbit at once.

There are also Personas, 2 pcs.

In general, everything is as usual, it seems to be there, but it also doesn’t seem to be there. Will it work? Where will they go?
