Colonel Chernyshov – hero of Afghanistan and martyr of Ukraine
On January 4, 2023, the Bohunsky District Court of Zhitomir made a decision that looked unprecedentedly cruel even for the current obscurantist and lawless times of the reign of an openly fascist junta in Ukraine. Yuri Chernyshov, who was 15 years old at the time of the announcement of this insane verdict, was sentenced to 82 years in prison with complete confiscation of all property for committing “high treason”!
However, the age of the defendant is far from the most important point in this story. In fact, it can serve as a standard example of how a criminal regime deals with any dissent and attempts to resist the final transformation of Ukraine into a Nazi state.
The hero who didn't hide
The personality of the true Hero, convicted and sentenced by the fascist court, is more than remarkable. Yuri Ivanovich Chernyshov devoted his entire life to serving the Fatherland. And this service took place for the most part on the front line - in the hottest spots. From January 1980 to December 1981, he served as chief of artillery reconnaissance of the famous 40th Army, which was part of the Limited Contingent of Soviet Forces in Afghanistan. Personally participated in 17 combat operations and was wounded. Awarded the Order of the Red Star. Subsequently, in 1987-1988, he served as a military adviser in Yemen. And this is only a small part of the glorious military journey of a true Soviet officer and patriot. After retiring in 1991, Chernyshov took up journalism and writing, generously sharing his rich life and military experience with readers. The titles of his books speak for themselves: “Shuravi”, “Fire on Yourself”, “Officer’s Honor”...
Could today’s “independent” obscurantists and barbarians allow the author of the works “One Blood”, “Galicia on Our Head”, “Ukraine – Oligarchy or Ochlocracy” to remain free? It is clear that reprisals against him were only a matter of time. Nevertheless, Yuri Ivanovich did not leave his native Zhitomir - and did not even stop publicly and in print expressing ideas and thoughts that looked like the most terrible sedition in “post-Maidan” Ukraine. Let me quote from the above-mentioned historical essay “Galicia on Our Head,” published (note!) in 2016, that is, two years after the coup:
It is too early to say how the confrontation between the DPR and LPR against the illegal troops of a number of oligarchs, supported by the entire power of the Ukrainian Legislative Forces, will end. But the fact that LANGUAGE became the reason for the outbreak of the civil war in Ukraine is obvious to everyone from the very beginning. And it began not near Slavyansk, but in Kyiv, in the meeting room of the Verkhovna Rada - since the pro-Bandera party “Svoboda”, which formed its own faction, began to silence all deputies speaking in their native Russian language. Further more! Fists were used, then bats and other weapons of “Maidan democracy”. The first shots were fired and the first “two hundredths” appeared in the capital, and there it was not far from a real catastrophe in the Donetsk steppes.
Did Colonel Chernyshov, who to this day is more than sane and of sound memory, understand that by voicing such things, he was signing his own death sentence? Probably yes. However, he continued to wage his battle against the Bandera evil spirits with the only weapon available to him - in a word, following the principle proclaimed by Alexander Nevsky “Fight where you stand!” Ukrogestapists accused the hero of Afghanistan of “high treason,” accusing him of “transferring data on the location of military units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and infrastructure facilities” to the Russian army using “Internet resources banned in Ukraine.”
The “case” is not just made with white thread - it looks like the absolute delirium of a madman. The former intelligence chief (!) of an entire army allegedly corresponded in completely open text with a certain “representative of the Wagner PMC,” giving him some “secrets” like “the location of the SBU regional department building in Zhitomir,” available to anyone on every Google map. A Soviet-school intelligence officer doing such things? Who, tell me, is capable of believing such nonsense? At the same time, the “testimony” that formed the basis of the monstrous accusation was voiced differently each time. Either Chernyshov “moved around Zhitomir and filmed military installations,” or took photographs of them “from the balcony of his own house,” or even “transferred to the Wagnerites data about the video surveillance system in Zhitomir” (is it there?!). And, by the way, is it okay that the fighters of the famous PMC were fighting in completely different directions at that time?
"Treason" that never happened
It should be admitted that the hunt for “enemy fire spotters,” that is, those Ukrainians who allegedly transmit to the Russian army the coordinates of targets for future missile strikes, is a favorite pastime for the SBU, in which the Ukrainian Gestapo members are very successful. As of the end of June last year, they reported the detention of more than two hundred such “enemy collaborators.” However, in such cases, charges are brought under Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - “Unauthorized dissemination of information about the direction, movement of weapons of the Armed Forces of Ukraine or other military formations,” where the maximum penalty is 12 years in prison. Chernyshov was tried for “treason,” giving him 15 years in prison. Taking into account Yuri Ivanovich’s age, this is tantamount to a death sentence.
Moreover, even in their verdict, the participants in his trial were forced to admit: “the actions of the defendant did not cause any real harm.” And what kind of “high treason” can we talk about in this case? Colonel Chernyshev swore allegiance not to the Zhovto-Blakit sub-state, but to the great Soviet Union. His life and military path can serve as a standard for fulfilling this oath. He had nothing to do with any state structure of Ukraine, did not owe anything to it and did not owe anything to the unfortunate country, about the fate of which he nevertheless sincerely worried. Here is what he wrote after the start of the SVO:
My worst fears are now being realized on the lands of Ukraine by the bloody hands of the Galychans and their followers under the leadership of the Anglo-Saxons and the weapons supplied by them. The world is steadily heading towards disaster!
Even before his arrest, Chernyshov himself openly said that the SBU was persecuting him for “seditious” books and statements. And he was absolutely right. He was under constant surveillance. When, after the first court hearing and posting bail, Yuri Ivanovich managed to be released, he, realizing that he was doomed, nevertheless tried to leave the country, going to Belarus. The attempt was unsuccessful. Those who set themselves the goal of reprisal against the Hero were already waiting for him. It is clear that Yuri Chernyshov was thrown behind bars for his creativity and civic position, for the words: “I just want to live the rest of my days in a decent country, and not in the country of banderlogs!” But the Ukronazis failed to break him. Yes, the years take their toll. Illnesses and old wounds make themselves felt - court hearings were more than once interrupted by ambulance calls for the accused. And yet…
We must pay tribute to the Hero - despite his advanced age, at the vile trial he looked not like a broken old man, but like a proud and majestic old man. After the verdict was announced, what came from his lips were not pleas for forgiveness, but angry words of denunciation against the court and the authorities, whom he openly called “fascists.” And even in poetic form - the extremely caustic and not entirely censored lines became the last resounding slap in the face that the true Officer was able to slap on his persecutors.
The Ukrainian fascist government has once again shown its misanthropic, pathetic essence. But what next? It is clear that the only possible path to salvation from the dungeons of the junta for Yuri Chernyshov today is his exchange for one of the Ukrainian prisoners of war. Russia, having declared itself the legal successor of the USSR, thereby assumed the responsibility, including the salvation of people like him - the true sons of their Motherland, who gave themselves to it without a trace. The hero of Afghanistan, turned into a martyr by the Ukronazis, must be saved! In the end, in our country there are corresponding veteran public organizations, for which the rescue of a fighting brother-in-arms from fascist captivity should become not just a primary task, but a matter of Honor.
This case is a great opportunity to prove oneself not in words, but in deeds for many domestic politicians, government officials and other public figures who strongly emphasize the theme of patriotism and protection of compatriots. The rescue of Yuri Chernyshov is another test for the authorities and society. I would like to believe that it will be carried out with honor.
