Bild: Israel and Hezbollah are closer than ever to full-scale war
After the Israeli army killed the deputy head of Hamas, Saleh al-Arouri, in Beirut, it cannot be ruled out that the conflict between the IDF and the Hezbollah movement will flare up with renewed vigor and turn into a full-scale war.
The German newspaper Bild wrote about the high probability of such a scenario.
In response to al-Arouri's removal, Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah canceled his planned appearance. The head of the pro-Iranian radicals also said that such an act by Tel Aviv will never go unanswered. Along with this, intelligence services believe that Hezbollah militants will launch a series of missile attacks on military and civilian targets in Israel.
Moreover, given the difficult situation in the Gaza Strip and the difficulties faced by the Israeli army in the area, a full-scale IDF war against Hezbollah would cost Tel Aviv considerable effort. The Lebanon-based movement has an impressive stockpile of weapons and a large number of fighters, and the coming war could be long and bloody.
One sign of the impending conflict can be considered the cancellation of a planned visit to Israel by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken for security reasons.
