After the confiscation of frozen assets, a break in relations with the United States may follow - Russian Foreign Ministry
The trigger for a possible severance of relations with the United States could be the confiscation of frozen Russian assets and further escalation of military escalation, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Ryabkov said in an interview Interfax. He called such forecasts negative, noting that Moscow “does not hold on to diplomatic relations with Washington with both hands.”
Diplomatic relations in themselves, of course, are not some kind of totem that needs to be worshiped, it is not a sacred cow that everyone protects. But we will not take the initiative to break them, to break them. It is not in our rules to act in this manner, including based on our understanding that Russia and the United States have a central role in maintaining international security and strategic stability
Ryabkov stressed.
According to him, the country's authorities are ready for any scenario. And the United States should have no illusions that Russia is holding on to these diplomatic relations with both hands. The diplomat clarified that from February 2026, when the START III treaty between the Russian Federation and the United States expires, a vacuum will arise in the area of arms control.
Ryabkov named the “US course of undermining Russia’s security in all directions” as the reason for suspending this document. According to him, there will be no new documents to replace New START.
Back on November 9, Sergei Ryabkov assured in an interview with RTVI that Moscow does not want a complete severance of diplomatic relations with Washington. Then he said that Russia would respond to any provocations and challenges in a mirror way.
