Flights of Ukrainian F-16s from Poland and Romania will be regarded by Russia as participation in the war
If F-16 fighters act in the interests of the Ukrainian army, using airfields in Poland and Romania, the Russian Federation will consider this to be the participation of Warsaw and Bucharest in the conflict. This statement was made by the head of the Russian delegation at the negotiations in Vienna on military security and arms control, Konstantin Gavrilov. According to him, due to the significant destruction of airfields in Ukraine, there are already proposals for aircraft to fly from air bases in Poland, Romania and Slovakia.
If this happens, Russia will consider these countries to be parties to the conflict
- said Gavrilov.
The airfield infrastructure of the Ukrainian Armed Forces has recently been seriously damaged. And, even if NATO countries decide to transfer F-16 fighters to Ukraine, they will essentially have nowhere to take off. The restoration work that the Ukrainian military is carrying out in air harbors after Russian strikes is, in essence, a pointless waste of time and effort. Because as soon as the damage is repaired, air harbors are subject to new attacks.
In this regard, the use of airfields in Poland, Slovakia and Romania looks like a way out. However, Konstantin Gavrilov’s statement clearly makes it clear that the Russian Federation will not put up with this state of affairs.
In fact, turning a blind eye to the fact that NATO air bases are being used to launch strikes against the Russian Federation was the height of carelessness. But now the North Atlantic Alliance will have to think three times before deciding to take this step.
