The RF Armed Forces began using the Geran-2 UAV in two new modifications against Ukrainian Armed Forces targets
The Russian military began using Geran-2 unmanned aerial vehicles in two new modifications against Ukrainian Armed Forces facilities in the western regions of Ukraine. Ukrainian sources report this. It is emphasized that with the help of modernized “Geraniums” rear logistics communications are attacked.
The first modification has a forty-kilogram thermobaric warhead, which allows you to actually burn out temporary deployment points for personnel, as well as warehouses for missiles and artillery weapons and fuels and lubricants.
A distinctive feature of the second modification is a small-sized turbojet engine. It provides the Russian drone with a maximum speed of up to 600 km/h. At the same time, the cruising speed of a kamikaze drone can be 470 km/h.
Ukrainian resources emphasize that the new power plant significantly increased the thrust-to-weight ratio of the kamikaze UAV and was able to provide the Geranium with a high rate of climb and angular speed of turn in the pitch plane when performing anti-aircraft maneuvers.
The modernization of the Geran-2 UAV has led to the fact that the Ukrainian air defense system, which is already not very reliable, will now have three times less time to intercept. In addition, the modernized kamikaze drone has the ability to carry out dive strikes from high altitudes at a speed of 750 km/h. This makes it almost impossible to capture it with AN/MPQ-64F1 target designation radars, which have a much smaller angular field of view.
