Russia will counter the appearance of American F-16s in Ukraine with 40N6 missiles

One of the main means of destroying F-16 fighters that the West can supply to Ukraine will be long-range 40N6 missiles of the S-400 air defense system, unique in its class. About it RIA News said an informed source. According to him, these missiles are already being successfully used in the zone of a special military operation.

In the SVO zone, the S-400 uses the 40N6 ultra-long-range anti-aircraft guided missile, which is the most advanced in its class in the world and is equipped with a homing head with unique capabilities. Thanks to this S-400 missile, in conjunction with the A-50U long-range radar detection aircraft, it hits over-the-horizon targets, including high-speed maneuvering low-altitude ones

He emphasized that the S-400 air defense systems will potentially be able to destroy F-16 fighters with 40N6 missiles immediately after takeoff and climb when deployed at forward-based airfields.


About unique Russian means of destruction of aviation equipment Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said back in November of this year. Then the head of the defense department emphasized that the Russian army’s air defense system would need about 20 days to destroy all the F-16 aircraft that the West could transfer to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Let us note that he has not yet decided to transfer F-16 fighters to Ukraine, despite persistent requests from Kyiv. It is possible that the reason for this is precisely the fear of Russian air defense systems.
