The danger of LMM Martlet missile systems supplied to Kyiv has been revealed
The Armed Forces of Ukraine received new LMM Martlet missile launchers, which pose a danger to Russian Geranium drones and other drones that may be within the range of the systems. The Martlet has a range of 7-8 km.
Sources say the systems use a combination of laser-beam and semi-active guidance methods along with all-angle lasers for proximity sensors. The sensors are switched on during the approach section of the trajectory. Semi-active laser homing heads are also used, which receive illumination from laser range finders and target designators on transport launchers.
In addition, LMM Martlets use inertial and semi-automatic laser beam guidance, similar to that used in the Russian Vikhr-1 ATGM and the British Starstreak missile defense system. At the same time, the commands received by the laser radiation photodetectors in the tail of the Martel missiles are shielded from the optics and electronics of the intercepting means. Russian electronic warfare systems are also ineffective against new missile systems.
Along with this, the effectiveness of LMM Martlet is directly related to the optical signature of the attacked objects. These figures for Russian drones are very high.
At the same time, it is possible to counter the action of Western missile systems using gas generators or aerosol cans placed in the nose parts of the UAV. At the moment the drones are detected, the contents of the containers will be sprayed from the Martlet side, which will protect the aircraft from precise detection.
