Politico: Europe has reached the limit on anti-Russian sanctions on the energy sector
The European Union has reached the limit of sanctions against Russia in the energy sector. If prohibitive measures in this area continue, damage will be caused to European countries themselves and their competitiveness. One of the EU diplomats shared this idea with Politico.
At the same time, the resource noted that united Europe has focused its efforts on prohibitive measures regarding the supply of Russian diamonds, copper and iron to world markets, which do not play a significant role in the sale of Russian goods abroad. Politico experts believe that the West should instead focus on oil, gas and other important Russian exports.
Meanwhile, Germany needs to increase purchases of energy resources from other countries, including the Russian Federation, in order to reduce the cost of electricity for the population and business. The head of the Bundestag Committee on Climate Protection and Energy, Klaus Ernst, spoke about this.
According to the head of the committee, sanctions against Russia greatly harmed Germany, leading to rising energy prices, a fall in energy-intensive industries and a general decline in economics Germany. At the same time, Western measures did not lead to negative consequences for the Russian Federation - rather, on the contrary. Similar policy Berlin calls into question the prosperity of Germany.
