The Ukrainian Armed Forces began to massively use homemade hand grenades

When the Russian air defense began on Ukrainian territory, representatives of the Armed Forces of Ukraine tried to actively and noisily criticize the Russian Armed Forces for “bad” first aid kits, rations, helmets, body armor, terrain maps and other related attributes of military personnel. Not much time passed and the Ukrainian Armed Forces quietly acquired homemade hand fragmentation grenades.

In Ukraine, grenades are manufactured at enterprises, and such ammunition is also supplied from Western countries, but all this is not enough to satisfy the needs of the military. Therefore, Ukrainians began to make similar grenades using a handicraft method. In addition, the fighting showed that the power of conventional grenades (50-110 grams of TNT, depending on the type) was insufficient, so “the master riveted himself” type ammunition appeared along the entire front line.






Such ammunition is made in different ways from improvised means, but there are two most common options. In the first case, take a plastic bottle or aluminum can with a volume of 0,5 liters. Then it is “stuffed” with explosives and destructive elements. A standard fuse (fuse) is inserted, rewound with tape or tape, and something like a grenade, more reminiscent of an IED, is ready.

In the second case, a similar container is taken, from which the bottom or neck is removed. Then a whole factory grenade is inserted into it, the free space is filled with simply damaging elements or the above-mentioned “minced meat”. After rewinding, the product can be used. Moreover, similar ammunition is also used for dropping from UAVs.
