Musk “missed”: Falcon 9 fell into the water

4
On the eve of the 20th launch of the Falcon 9 rocket this year, the Dragon ship was launched into orbit this time. Its mission is to deliver equipment and other payload to the ISS.

The uniqueness of the offspring of Ilon Mask lies in its partial “reusability”. As conceived by the designers, the first stage of the rocket should independently return to the offshore platform immediately after disconnecting from the main part of the device in order to be reused later.

But, despite the fact that the Dragon, together with the cargo, nevertheless went into orbit, with the return of the stage everything turned out not so smoothly. There was a malfunction in one of the pumps and part of the spacecraft, due to strong rotation, lost its course. At the same time, the stage landed right in the sea, off the coast of Florida.

True, the incident did not upset the creator of the rocket, I. Mask, at all. On Twitter, he said that the landing was successful even though it occurred far from the platform. Immediately after landing on the water, rescue vessels were sent to the stage for its further transportation.

In addition, as the developers said, a pump malfunction helped to test the emergency landing of the device in the “field conditions”. Recall that the docking of the Dragon spaceship, which was successfully delivered into orbit, with the ISS is due to happen this Saturday, December 8th.
