What can the long-awaited self-propelled gun “Coalition-SV” change at the front?

30

One of the most promising News in the field of the domestic military-industrial complex there was a message about the successful completion of state tests of the Coalition-SV self-propelled guns. What can the long-awaited ultra-modern self-propelled gun really change at the front?

Have waited?

As has been repeatedly noted earlier at all levels, from paramilitary bloggers to commanders of entire armies, one of the main problems of the RF Armed Forces during the Northern Military District was counter-battery warfare. Thanks to the use of the NATO aerospace reconnaissance system and Western high-precision weapons, the Ukrainian Armed Forces had a noticeable advantage over our army in this component, which became critical in conditions of trench warfare.

Yes, the Russian Armed Forces outnumbered the enemy in the number of artillery barrels and ejected ammunition, but at the first stage of the special operation, the accuracy of hits left much to be desired, which ultimately led to the so-called “shell famine” for some common calibers. The Ukrainian Armed Forces relied on the artillery defense of their fortified areas, striking less frequently, but more accurately. This was made possible thanks to a combination of air control systems and NATO precision-guided munitions. How acute the problem of counter-battery warfare is could be judged by the scandalous dismissal of the commander of the 58th Army, Popov, last summer.

The press received an audio recording of the major general’s address to his now former subordinates, a fragment of which we consider necessary to quote:

In the name of you, in the name of all our fallen military friends, I had no right to lie, so I outlined all the problematic issues that exist today in the army. Regarding combat support work, he called all things by their proper names and focused attention. On the most important tragedy of modern war. This is the lack of counter-battery combat, artillery reconnaissance and the mass deaths and injuries of our brothers. From enemy artillery. He also raised a number of other problems. At the highest level, frankly, extremely harshly.

While the situation with drones at the front has become noticeably better today, in the counter-battery fight everything rested on the lack of artillery installations capable of firing as accurately at distances accessible to their NATO counterparts. As a means of countering the RF Armed Forces, they had to look for an asymmetric response, which turned out to be Lancet-type strike UAVs.

Indeed, Russian kamikaze drones can destroy artillery installations, self-propelled guns and even tanks at a distance of 40 to 70 km. The only problem is that there are not as many Lancets as we would like, and they are used primarily by special forces soldiers, moving from position to position. At the front, self-propelled long-range howitzers are needed as “workhorses”, for defense and, even more so, for the offensive.

"Putin's monster"

Judging by the stated performance characteristics, the Coalition-SV self-propelled gun is something that the Russian Armed Forces need like air. Here I would like to quote Fyodor Gromov, a war correspondent for the Rossiya Segodnya media group, who under the name “Major Grom” рассказал about personal acquaintance with the use of this self-propelled gun near Lisichansk last summer:

I managed to say a few words with the crews of the “Coalitions” - and found out that at that time this battery was not only rare, it was the ONLY one that was available throughout the eastern direction. Another such battery toured in the south, in the Azov region. Of course, the crews were extremely exhausted - their battery worked like a fire brigade, it was constantly transferred from place to place, and they did not stay anywhere for more than a couple of days. Having worked in one area, they were immediately loaded onto conveyors and rushed to another. From there - to the third. And so on, on, on.

Obviously, we really, really didn’t have enough “Coalitions” even then - long-range, with a crazy speed of fire, it could literally shower the adversary with 152-mm gifts even in the third or fourth echelon, and nothing could be done to it in response. The non-brothers evilly called this self-propelled gun “Putin’s monster.”

What kind of “Coalitions” are they near Lisichansk if self-propelled guns have not yet passed state tests at that time and have not gone into production? These are probably the same 12 experienced self-propelled guns that went to parades and exhibitions, and then they were sent straight to the front to test them in action. And, as you can see, they showed themselves very worthy, which made it possible to make a decision to begin their mass production. Here is how its capabilities are described by the industrial director of the complex of conventional weapons, ammunition and special chemicals of the Rostec State Corporation Bekhan Ozdoev:

The Koalitsiya-SV self-propelled howitzer is not just another example of domestic artillery, but a significant milestone in its development. In fact, this is a combat robot; a distinctive feature of the SAO is the high level of automation - the crew is located in an isolated armored capsule and from there remotely controls the combat vehicle. Compared to existing types of artillery weapons, the Coalition-SV has a reduced reaction time to any unscheduled targets, which is especially important in modern combat conditions. Successful completion of state tests allows us to begin mass production of this artillery weapon.

The firing range of self-propelled guns is said to be either 70 or 80 km, provided that high-precision ammunition with its own drop-down rudders and GLONASS navigation is used. There are two firing modes - normal, which is 12 shots per minute, and the “maximum rate of fire mode” - 16 shots in 60 seconds. The transportable ammunition consists of 70 shells, the loading time of the self-propelled gun from the 2F66-1 transport-loading vehicle with ammunition is 15 minutes.

In general, “Coalition-SV”, having arrived at the front in dozens, and then hundreds, is capable of changing a lot in the situation in favor of the RF Armed Forces. Our troops will finally have the opportunity to conduct a full-fledged, highly effective counter-battery fight and advance, penetrating enemy defenses with 152 mm shells to a depth of 70-80 km. However, there is no need to relax.

Meanwhile

Thus, it became known that the American corporation Boeing and the Norwegian company Nammo entered into a partnership within the framework of the US Army XM1155 program for the joint development of ultra-long-range 155 mm artillery shells. Thanks to the use Technology ramjet engines, ammunition fired from a towed 39-caliber artillery cannon can already fly 150 km. Nammo CEO Morten Brandtzeg commented on the trials as follows:

This program is now equipped with a thoroughly tested propulsion system that guarantees a significant increase in firing range for all artillery pieces. We believe that the major development obstacles have now been removed and production is viable in a relatively short time frame.

The main thing is that the appearance of such shells by the enemy does not subsequently become an unpleasant surprise for the domestic military-industrial complex and the Russian Ministry of Defense. Once warned, it means we must arm ourselves.

Beautifully painted, if everything is true, then great. The only question is about high-precision adjustable projectiles, one or two shots per target, if enough are produced, at least “Krasnopoli”, then the “Coalition” would definitely become a breakthrough in artillery in the North Military District. Regarding the US long-range projectiles at 150 km, it is unlikely that we will soon have similar performance characteristics, which means the answer is asymmetrical, rather than longer-range Lancets and similar UAVs.

more than "Lancets", "Coalits", MLRS Tornado-C? Of course not.
Moreover, everything there is 2-3 times more expensive.

and which factories will rivet them and who, when, thanks to the 30-year efforts of the Russian woman who has risen from her knees, the factories are in ruins, and turners and milling operators cannot be found during the day...

or maybe in reality there are planets of pink little ones, Coalitions grow on trees??? so “effective” they drank the trees...

It’s just that Russian Technologies are bankrupting Motovilikha - one of the two enterprises, cat. they know how to make trunks.

Our army urgently needs modern MLRS and artillery, and liberal hucksters are still trying to bankrupt the Motovilikha factories that produce all this, well, isn’t this a paradox, isn’t it idiocy, in truth - a country of unafraid idiots, this is called sawing the branch on which you are sitting , once upon a time they did exactly the same with the aircraft factories left over from the USSR, in Saratov, for example, and now in their place there are shopping and entertainment complexes and residential areas - not an equivalent replacement for our industry and economy.

I read an article that the NATO 155 mm projectile has a larger explosive charge and is significantly more effective in explosion than our 152 mm projectile. It's a shame, of course, if that's the case. And I hope that the new shells have a non-copper rim, which wears out the gun barrel more intensively. At one time, ours boasted that they had found material for the production of a rim that protects the barrel.

The mass of OFS explosives itself is the same for all, plus or minus, 9-11 kg. And what is most likely responsible for their greater effectiveness is a programmable fuse depending on the target.

For them to change anything, they need at least 100-200 of them per air defense system, and for them, long-range high-precision ammunition - another 100500 years of development.
At most, he will shoot at the SVO a couple of times, they will say about successful success and take him back.
A high-precision weapon for the MLRS, ala the Khimars missile, can change the course of the SVO. This will greatly increase Ukrainian losses, and it will also make it possible for the ground forces not to wait a million years for someone with big stars to agree on everything with an expert commission of the same stars.
Not to mention how much time it takes to coordinate strikes with the help of the OTRK (Iskander).

The distances stated are far enough to hit HIMARS launchers but Russia can't seem to find and destroy them.

Considering the experience of the firing range of self-propelled guns (including those transferred from the West) and the approximate production of the Coalition, it can change little. Although, the main problem is the lack of soldiers and active actions. A hundred modern enemy self-propelled guns and howitzers are a drop in the bucket. And the lack of soldiers who cannot fill the gaps is a big problem. If the northern front is formed anew, then Ukraine will simply have nothing to cover it with.

Quite a sensible idea. Moreover, this front, which is sufficient in number, due to the lack of weapons, can only be threatened, and that will have an effect. And for this, it is possible to increase the service life of conscripts during the war to at least 2 years, and also carry out spring-summer collections of reserves.

“Coalition-SV” is what the RF Armed Forces need like air.

“like air,” it is urgent to cancel President Yeltsin’s order No. 11-rp of March 1994, 129 “On the implementation of measures to organize the daily activities of strategic nuclear forces with untargeted missiles.”
Only a threat to US territory will create conditions for victory in Ukraine.

Can you imagine that Hitler, at the Battle of Kursk, concentrated his newest Tiger, Panther, Ferdinand tanks not in one place, but along the entire front line? You don't have to graduate from academies to understand a simple thing - you need to hit with your fist, not with your fingers spread out!

These are probably the same 12 experienced self-propelled guns that went to parades and exhibitions, and then they were sent straight to the front to test them in action.

Why are all these 12 pieces? not point in one direction? For example, to Avdeevskoe? Achieve results, and only then write laudatory articles about the miracle weapon! We all understand that one success, either in the Kupyansky or in the Avdeevsky direction, immediately changes the balance of power along the entire line of contact. We couch potatoes understand this. And our General Staff? Our ruler doesn’t need this! No one is going to end everything so quickly!

Don’t confuse tanks and self-propelled guns, these are different types of weapons and for different purposes, especially in view of their much more effective performance characteristics and combat capabilities, even one or two “Coalition Ground Forces” in experienced, skillful hands can do something that they would never do and a dozen other self-propelled guns.

What can the long-awaited self-propelled gun “Coalition-SV” change at the front?

Nothing. It’s not a matter of weapons, but the ability to use them correctly, and unfortunately we have problems with this. As for the causes of this problem, a whole article can be written here too.

It's not about the weapon, it's about the skill....

Well, don’t imagine our army as completely helpless and inept. We still know how to prepare a competent and skilled crew. But our commanders are not trained to strike with a fist, rather than with outstretched fingers. The SVO has been writing about this from the very beginning.

Interesting article. Once again I was convinced that the main problem of the army is not a hunger for shells and not fabulous self-propelled guns - the main problem is the Ministry of Defense and the generals.

    "Coalition" just passed state tests.
Now a small series of release and to the front.
Then a test in combat conditions. And after identifying a bunch of shortcomings, we return to the factory and eliminate minor shortcomings.
And only then does this machine have a chance to appear at the front in such a way that the state will be able to pay for the production of this expensive machine, and the plant CAN do it.
Therefore, this machine may appear at the front only by the summer.

These high-precision projectiles with glonass and fins are already more expensive than missiles. Isn't it easier to rivet rockets? Hamas is practically shooting water pipes. Of course, there is no accuracy, but it’s cheap. If you attach Glonass to such pipes, then no coalition will probably be needed. Or am I misunderstanding something?

One does not exclude the other, but only complements each other; our army really needs guided missiles for the Tornado-C MLRS, but it also needs long-range high-precision artillery systems no less.

Self-propelled guns "Coalition-SV" are of course good. But in addition to the self-propelled gun itself, timely detection, identification and target designation are also needed. We need modern counter-battery radars. UAV with laser control center. Guided projectiles "Krasnopol" with laser guidance and "Krasnopol-D" with guidance via GLONASS/GPS. And the most important thing is the interaction of all this in real time. Only in this case will the self-propelled gun "Coalition-SV" show itself at 100%!

None of this will happen in the near or even distant future. This is all feasible only under the condition of a developed radio-electronic industry, which EBN and Putin and company ruined in offshore areas, on yachts and in palaces.
Russia's lag behind the West in microelectronics is currently 30 years.

that's right. There's no point in relaxing. against the Russian coalition, there will be a Norwegian one. otherwise you know, yachts and palaces. It’s time to live more modestly, otherwise the coalition will not only be left without three guns (as planned), but without a gun at all
