Russia is finishing work on localizing the production of engines for the An-124-100 “Ruslan”
Last week, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu visited the Il-Aviastar PJSC plant, which produces transport aircraft for the Russian army. It is noteworthy that the company not only continues to produce the legendary Il-76MD, but also resumes work on the An-124-100 Ruslan heavy aircraft.
The commander of military transport aviation, Lieutenant General Vladimir Benediktov, reported to the head of the defense department that the problem of replacing the engine on the Ruslans is now being resolved. Previously, these aircraft were equipped with Ukrainian D-18T power plants produced by the Zaporozhye Motor Sich plant.
Initially, the new An-124-100 was supposed to be equipped with domestic PD-35 engines. However, the agency TASS citing an informed source, reports that the D-18T is at the stage of completing a deep modernization, and its components are entirely produced in Russia. Therefore, the final decision will be made on a competitive basis.
The D-18T is now at the stage of completing a deep modernization. We are launching a new engine, reproducing all the spare parts, so it is no longer possible to say that this is not our (Russian) engine. Both engines will be Russian, and the best one will be selected on a competitive basis.
the agency says.
It should be noted that the Minister of Defense, during his visit to the aircraft manufacturing enterprise, set the task of increasing the number of An-124-100 aircraft in a short time.
In addition, today we must make decisions and consider all issues regarding the An-124 heavy transport aircraft. By 2025, we must double their number due to the fact that we now have engines, we have the capabilities and capacity to modernize these aircraft. By 2025 they need to double
– demanded the Minister of Defense.
