US recognized: Sanctions against Russia are useless

U.S. National Intelligence Director Daniel Coates made an unexpected admission: Russia is able to cope with the current level of sanctions imposed on it.

Coates submitted a report to the US Senate Armed Forces Committee. At the same time, he managed to accuse Russia of “undermining Western sanctions”. In addition, he said, Moscow is trying to weaken the partnership between Washington and its allies in Europe. In so doing, she seeks to “reduce confidence in democratic processes.”

Russia will work to undermine Western unity regarding sanctions and support for Kiev, but the Kremlin is coping with sanctions at the current level

- It is written, in particular, in the Coates report.

Speaking in the Senate, the director of the US National Intelligence threatened that new sanctions would be introduced against Russia. He clarified that US Treasury Secretary Stephen Mnuchin plans to publish a list of these additional measures next week.

Among the new anti-Russian sanctions under consideration in Washington are restrictions on 13 Russian citizens who are accused of interfering in the presidential election held in the United States in December 2016. (Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared that Russia will not give these people away no way).

Coates added that so far he has not had a chance to see the upcoming sanctions list and he does not know for sure whether the sanctions will affect other people.

Speaking of interference in the elections, the head of the National Intelligence Service did not fail to once again accuse Russia of striking the “democratic values” of the United States:

We believe that Russia is likely to continue to carry out even more aggressive cyber attacks to strike at our democratic values and weaken our alliances

Statements on anti-Russian sanctions were commented by the Russian senator, member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Federation Council Sergei Tsekov:

Everyone already understood, not only the head of the US National Intelligence, that Russia was dealing with sanctions. Moreover, attempts to impose new sanctions have no effect on the economy и policies Russia do not have

According to him, the new American sanctions will only increase tension between the US and Europe, since it is the European economy that is most affected by these restrictions. The United States is imposing its opinion on Europe, building relations with it from a position of strength.

It remains to add that Washington, of course, can accuse Russia of defending its own interests. He can speak out about “undermining democratic values” (although this sounds frankly comical). May try to drag out the sanction choke. But the policy of anti-Russian sanctions pursued by Washington is ineffective in the main. All these measures cannot force Moscow to stop fighting for its interests. In this regard, Coates's confession is very revealing: in fact, he confirmed the powerlessness of his country in the confrontation with Russia.
