Work on creating an “aircraft carrier killer” – the Zmeevik missile – has been suspended in Russia.

Work on the creation of the Zmeevik hypersonic missile, which in military circles is called an aircraft carrier killer, has been suspended. The agency reports this with reference to a source in the military-industrial complex of the Russian Federation TASS. It is emphasized that now all the efforts of the Russian defense industry are focused on improving the weapons used in a special military operation.

Let us recall that the development by Russian scientists of the latest hypersonic anti-ship missile “Zmeevik” became known last year. It was noted that work in this direction has been ongoing for at least five years. At the same time, information was leaked to the media that the new missile system was similar in its tactical and technical characteristics to the Chinese DF-21D anti-ship ballistic missile (pictured). It was created, among other things, to destroy sea and land carriers of the new American hypersonic Dark Eagle missile.

In the West, this information caused real hysteria. Military officials of the United States and the North Atlantic Alliance vied with each other to declare that Russia does not have the right to develop such weapons. Such statements did not cause surprise. After all, the Serpentine seemed to be a real and compelling threat to the US Navy, whose tactics are based on the use of aircraft carriers.

If the latest hypersonic missile were put into service in the Russian Federation, American aircraft-carrying ships would have to bypass Russian territory five thousand kilometers away. Otherwise, they would fall into the Serpentine's kill zone.

The fact that work on creating the latest anti-ship missile has been suspended, of course, cannot be encouraging. But now the Russian defense industry has other priorities as a priority.
