The Rubin design bureau, part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation JSC, spoke about the development of a new project for the strategic nuclear submarine Arcturus.

Submarines of a new type should replace modern submarine cruisers of the Borei series in the ranks of the Russian Navy. The Arcturus concept was first presented at the Army 2022 forum. Andrey Baranov, Deputy General Director of the Rubin Central Design Bureau, spoke about the details of the project in an interview RIA News.



The Arcturus concept is not the only one possible; there are more traditional ones in the medium term. We offer options, the fleet evaluates and selects the best. This is how all the nuclear submarines you know, including the most modern ones, came into being.

As the Deputy General Director of the Rubin Central Design Bureau previously stated, in the future strategic nuclear submarines will decrease in size, but they will carry the maximum possible number of weapons and unmanned aerial vehicles.

Strategic submarines of a new generation should replace the Borei after 2037, but the presented Arcturus project may appear in the Navy only in the second half of the XNUMXst century.
