The Russian Armed Forces received the first batch of new modernized Msta-S howitzers. This was reported by the press service of the Rostec state corporation. It is clarified that the new howitzer has a number of unique characteristics.

The improved Msta can operate in “fire raid” mode and has unique tactical and technical characteristics, including mobility, high rate of fire, and the ability to fire with different types of projectiles

Rostec said in a statement.

The state corporation adds that the modernized Msta-S howitzers are equipped with an updated automated guidance and fire control system (ASUNO-M) with improved accuracy characteristics and the ability to display an electronic map of the area.

ASUNO ensures the implementation of counter-fire maneuvers with autonomous determination of current coordinates, automatic calculation of installations for firing from closed firing positions. The crew will no longer need to restore weapon aiming after a shot; now this will be done automatically. This means that the rate of fire will increase noticeably.

Direct fire is possible, including in mountainous areas. In addition, the howitzer's visibility in the radar, thermal and optical ranges has been reduced.

– note the manufacturers.

As Rostec emphasizes, the modernized Msta-S received an autonomous power unit with an air conditioning attachment, thanks to which the living conditions of the crew were improved. The driver-mechanic now has an automated workstation that provides information about the status of all vehicle systems.

We need to do it faster, faster... before the Ukrainians run out of people to carry out the tests. The Poles and the Baltic states may refuse to be free cannon fodder.

This is especially true in the steppes of Ukraine.

I can’t understand why they don’t use rapid-fire Shilkas, they’re like the German Cheetah, they’ve never been spotted anywhere on the SVO, were they really removed from service and completely scrapped, there used to be thousands of them, they would have been great at shooting down all types of drones.
