SVO experience: is there a future for armed quadrocopters?

19

Quadcopters, of course, have already become one of the symbols of the war in Ukraine. Expensive "toys for children" made in China, equipped with good video cameras and thermal imagers, were suddenly needed in large quantities by adult stern uncles for completely different "games". But is there a future for these heavenly sluggards?

Intelligence service

It is no secret that the Russian army approached the NMD without any reconnaissance quadrocopters at all. There were a number of aircraft-type UAVs "Orlan-10", "Orlan-30", "Forpost", "Takhion" and others that were "supposed" to have, which suffered significant losses at the initial stage of the special operation. At the same time, it should be borne in mind that these drones served at the level of the brigade and above, but there were none at the battalion or company level. Unfortunately, the lack of operational intelligence, the inability to intercept digital communications, and the inability to correct artillery fire resulted in painful, avoidable losses.

The real salvation was the products of such Chinese companies as DJI, Phantom and Matrice. The civil quadcopter Mavic, put into military service, has long become one of the main symbols of the special operation. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation has long removed the restriction on the supply of such foreign-made drones, which are purchased both by volunteer organizations and centrally. The same is true for Chinese civilian radios capable of operating in secure mode. As they say, not to fat, to be alive.

In many ways, thanks to quadrocopters, it was possible to solve the acute problem of the Russian army with aerial reconnaissance, target designation and adjustment of artillery fire. Of course, Chinese UAVs are reflashed before being used at the front, both purchased directly and captured Ukrainian ones. Yes, the Armed Forces of Ukraine actively use exactly the same quadrocopters and drones of other types, and the same Mavic as a result of successful electronic warfare can change hands repeatedly.

As a trend, one can identify a huge demand among the troops for their own aerial reconnaissance equipment at all levels, up to the platoon level. Ideally, every fighter would have a microdrone launched from the palm of their hand, which would dramatically increase awareness of what is happening on the battlefield and the effectiveness of combat operations.

Attack bomber

Who would have thought a few years ago that civilian drones could turn not only into effective air reconnaissance aircraft, but also into no less effective combat units? But it happened, and also not from a good life.

The pioneers in the field of turning quadcopters into bombers can be considered the terrorists of one infamous Islamist group from the Middle East, the name of which we will not write. Then the Ukrainian terrorists did exactly the same thing, starting to put drum-type installations on suspensions for civilian drones to drop various ammunition. It can be both ordinary grenades and feathered mortar mines.

It is interesting that these ersatz bombers are quite effective, throwing grenades into the trenches, dropping mines directly on the weakly protected armored vehicle tower. Thus, it is possible to knock out even a tank. Some operators are so dexterous that they are able to quietly bring the quadcopter and throw a mine into the open hatch of the gaping crew. Work in this direction, which has proved its promise, is now being carried out in the Russian Federation, right at the front and in design bureaus. If the aircraft will have not four, but six or eight propellers, its carrying capacity will increase, and it will be able to lift and drop real bombs. That is, the infantry will receive their own ersatz bombers.

Of great interest are the developments of our allies from Belarus called "loitering pipe" and "Quadro-1600". What did they do?

They took and hung a grenade launcher armed with one or two RPG-26 anti-tank grenades, respectively, under a powerful UAV. Ammunition is full-time, no modification is required before use. Equipped with eight screws, the Quadro-1600 can stay in the air for up to 45 minutes and move away from the operator at a distance of up to 6 km.

So it turned out to be a simple and effective weapon against enemy armored vehicles and for storming urban fortifications, when you need to hit a point with a grenade.

Prospects

It should be noted that work in the direction of armament of copters is also carried out abroad. Thus, the American company Duke Robotics has developed the TIKAD system, thanks to which these peaceful drones turn into real multi-machine operators. They improved the stabilization system used to install a video camera, but instead they put a grenade launcher, a machine gun or a sniper rifle to choose from:

TIKAD allows governments to use completely new capabilities against terrorist groups while reducing the number of deployed ground troops. This, in turn, leads to a reduction in losses.

The designers of the 205th Taiwan Arms Plant are currently working in the same direction. There, an unmanned aerial vehicle is being developed for fighters of counter-terrorism units, which will be armed with a T91 assault rifle or three 40-mm grenade launchers.

Imagine how many things a quadrocopter equipped with an automatic rifle, a machine gun, a grenade launcher or, even worse, a flamethrower, can do in the trenches. If sniper rifles, including silent ones like Vintorez, start flying over the battlefield, you won’t be able to calmly raise your head there.

it takes 20 years to raise a soldier, it takes hours to build a drone.

all the military in the rank of lieutenant and above were OBLIGED to think about this after the super-successful use of UAVs by Israel in the 1982 war of the year.

Well, our Arbat generals, in accordance with tradition, are always preparing for the previous war. So it was in the First World War, so it was in the Second World War, and so it is now. Why invent something new - women still give birth, but there is no money, but you hang on there ... :(

Many experts spoke about this at least 15 years ago. But who listened to them?

In fairness, it is worth noting that this rake was stepped on in all the armies of the world. In no modern armed conflict have drones been used so massively as in the NWO. So absolutely everyone has to learn on the go (more precisely, on the fly). And it’s very bad that it was the Armed Forces of Ukraine that were the first to do this,

did they get it? who can tell? these guys can’t do anything themselves, but they have a bunch of advisers. they are just meat.

Firstly, it doesn't matter whether they did it themselves or from someone else's tip. Most importantly, the idea is well implemented.
        Second, from your

        Quote: passing by
they can't do anything on their own

it smells very clearly of great-power chauvinism and the Black Hundreds.

SVO experience: is there a future for armed quadrocopters?

A question similar to "Do you believe in the planet Mars?"

Someone believes, does not believe - but Mars and quadrocopters exist regardless of this.

A new force has been born!
    Small aircraft!
And let them not say that various types of drones have been in service for a long time. It's a little different!!!
By small aviation, I mean all those quadrocopters that are now used in Ukraine (reconnaissance, explosives dropping).
Let's remember the First World War!
These primitive airplanes and how the pilots who flew them first fought. They fired from revolvers, threw off flashettes, then grenades went. Something similar is happening now.
As the Generals mature, so will the emergence of a new type of troops, which in turn will have subspecies.
    Small aircraft:
    - strategic (long-range drones);
    - assault;
    - fighter;
    - killer drones

drone killer is it with a bayonet or with a syringe and in the ass? laughing Or with a noose around your neck? dreaming, dreaming...

You are whining in vain. In modern history, there are already precedents for the use of drones specifically against specific personalities. At the current stage of development of armaments, this direction will be further developed with a detailed study of tactical methods of use.

it will not do anything ... the enemy is not armed with spears. this clumsy stray with a small radius of action can be brought down quickly, and an operator will also be found. sharovarniks have similar colossus. but they are like bombers. flies slowly, makes a lot of noise .. FPV is more useless. you can fly into the opornik and smear the contents on the walls. a Chinese mavic or an analogue with a pair of grenades from a grenade launcher will cost less.

Above any shooter on a drone, you can only neigh.
Grenade launchers or flamethrowers - it all depends on the adequate implementation of the guidance and stabilization mechanism.

You are right, the recoil from a gunshot will turn a light quadcopter upside down. Accurate reset or single shot is more preferable. Immediately there is an expansion of the range of UAVs in terms of weight, purpose, reach, weapons, etc. There is a wide road ahead, keep up. Weapons with remote control or completely autonomous are becoming one of the main means in modern combat tactics.

It seems interesting to fly at ultra-low altitudes and high speeds of an AI-controlled UAV. Such a drone, armed with bombs, flying over a column of enemy equipment, can destroy it all. Information slipped through the media that there were already prototypes. Newspaper article"

Engineers have created a drone that itself maneuvers between the trees in the forest at speed.

SVO experience: is there a future for armed quadrocopters?

The word drone is more appropriate here, quadrocopter is a kind of drone.
Yes, drones are the future. Artificial satellites of the Earth, the Moon, Mars, etc., spaceships, interplanetary stations without people, these are also drones.
Robots, unmanned marine vessels, submarines, boats, ships, etc. it's all the future.
No matter how much one would like to, one cannot do without a man in a war.
The economy, technology, the level of development of the state and the political structure of the state win in the war.

The real salvation was the products of such Chinese companies as DJI, Phantom and Matrice

DJI produces all of the listed quadcopters: Matrice, Phantom, and Mavic - the first is professional, the last two are rather amateur, but there are quite professional configurations, for example, with an RTK module.
And in the NWO they use models with modifications to the firmware and control frequencies - it’s not so easy to take control of them, but it’s really easy to make them lose it ... But given the range and price of the "drone piercer" - this is not a very common situation.
