Wheeled self-propelled guns "Malva" are expected in the troops

6

The first in the history of Russia wheeled self-propelled howitzer "Malva" has successfully passed state tests. This is reported by the state corporation "Rostec". It is emphasized that it has better maneuverability than caterpillar artillery installations, and has a greater technical resource.

Deployment of self-propelled guns "Malva" in position, leaving it and aiming at the target take much less time compared to towed guns

Rostec said in a statement.

Recall that the self-propelled guns 2S43 "Malva" was designed on the basis of the BAZ chassis with an 8x8 wheel arrangement. The artillery mount is designed to destroy command posts, defensive structures, artillery, rocket and mortar batteries, air defense systems, columns of armored vehicles and enemy manpower.

As emphasized in Rostec, the howitzer is capable of implementing the “simultaneous fire raid” firing mode (when several fired ammunition simultaneously reaches the target).

Thanks to the wheeled chassis, the Malva howitzer is able to quickly turn around in position and leave it, avoiding return fire, which is very important in counter-battery combat. This is a modern and powerful weapon with which you can destroy almost any object at a distance of more than 24 km. The rate of fire of the howitzer is more than 7 rounds per minute, and the ammunition consists of several dozen shells

developers say.

Are the main characteristics of range and accuracy better than current artillery systems?

The gun, in my opinion, is no different. Maneuverability only. The question is different - the number of trucks produced at this BAZ.

The range of the projectiles is much lower than that of NATO howitzers, which explains the endless and unpunished shelling of Donetsk. What to do? Russia has no others.

      Quote from Constantin N.
Are the main characteristics of range and accuracy better than current artillery systems?

NATO howitzers fire at exactly the same distance with conventional shells. Of course, if you shoot with Excaliburs or Krasnopol-M2 / D, the range will be higher for both of them.

A curious story of our front-line soldier about the situation in the Orekhovskoye direction in front of the settlement appeared on the telegram channel “Two Majors”. Rabotino. “I’ll tell you through the eyes of the artillery of this direction, which is held by one of the best combat divisions of the army, the howitzer division of the 71st regiment,” our fighter is quoted as saying. - For two months there were a huge number of counter-battery battles with similar enemy guns, in which he did not win a single victory.
The enemy countered our Msta-b 2a65 with the American M-777 howitzer. In view of the impossibility of winning the artillery duel, the enemy rolled back his guns to a distance of more than 40 km, using the new NATO Excalibur shells. What makes these guns inaccessible to our Msta-b, with a maximum range of 28 km.

As you can see, just starting to use the Excaliburs, the M-777 howitzers were able to start shooting further than the Msta-b. Before that, they lost artillery duels to our Msta-b because they did not have an advantage in the range of destruction when firing conventional shells, which they got when they started using Excaliburs. So it all depends on the counter-battery fight than to shoot. The same Coalition-SV, when fired by Krasnopol-D, hit at 70 km, since ordinary shells when fired at such a range will simply fly into milk.

Well, in the end, I would like to move away from the "Malva" a little and talk about the most promising ammunition for it - the semi-mythical "Krasnopol-D". .... now the latest ammunition is being tested. Most likely where it is really needed. What is its key difference? It's all about range - it's known that Msta-S, and hence "Malva", is capable of launching it at a distance of as much as 43 kilometers, which instantly puts it on a par with Excalibur. This property is achieved with the help of an improved jet engine, as well as a module for working with a GPS signal, which allows you to accurately enter a given area. In addition, the key property is preserved - guidance along the laser beam at the final stage of the flight, which the American simply does not have at the moment. That is, we managed to combine two concepts at once, depriving the product of all shortcomings. Surely this will directly affect the price of the finished product, but not much due to the small amount of additional electronics. By the way, They also tested new items on the "Coalition" - it launched a high-precision "blank" at a distance of 70 kilometers, but there the weapon is of a completely different level.

I don’t know about the military, but for me it’s just a stupid squiggle copied from Western samples

Yes, we just mastered the financing. It is easier to transfer from tracks to wheels than to develop something more advanced. I suspect that the design bureau simply does not have the necessary high-class designers.
