The fingerprint scanner will no longer save the smartphone from hacking

Do you think a fingerprint-based security system for your device will be able to guarantee your data is protected from malicious attacks? But no.

This fact has already been confirmed by a group of hackers who created a neural network called DeepMasterPrints. The tool is able to create a print that will be as similar as possible to remove the “lock” on your smartphone.

The result is achieved through the use of the error that gadget manufacturers themselves originally lay down. And this is not at all a flaw, but rather a necessary measure. The thing is that with external damage to the print (a scratch on the finger or a cut), the scanner can “freeze”.

So, the degree of security of your device directly depends on the percentage of permissible mismatch. Tests conducted using DeepMasterPrints showed that with a 1% error inherent, a neural network will crack your smartphone with a probability of 77%. And with a permissible difference of fingerprints of 0,1%, 22% of hacks will be successful.

But the most surprising in this case is that even if the manufacturer leaves a loophole equal to 0,01% of fingerprint mismatch, the tool created by hackers will “open” the device with a probability of 1%. In other words, you can’t talk about 100% protection of your gadget.
