The United States will accelerate the development of a promising next-generation interceptor missile, writes the Breaking Defense resource. According to him, the relevant subcommittee of the House of Representatives is promoting the initiative.

The new interceptor will have to have enhanced capabilities to neutralize the hypersonic weapons of potential adversaries. It is assumed that the new system will shoot down hypersonic targets before they "start maneuvering."



In addition, the law requires the close cooperation of the Space Forces with civilian services in order to track potential threats as soon as possible.

It is also mentioned that Raytheon is one of two contractor companies selected by the US Missile Defense Agency to develop and test a prototype of the latest interceptor.

Earlier, the media reported that one of the most protected parts of the United States in the field of missile defense is the island of Guam, located in the Western Pacific Ocean. It has a multi-layered defense system, consisting of the Iron Dome complex and its own MIM-104 Patriot systems, and in the future - Aegis Ashore, similar to the one that has been operating in Romania for several years.
