According to experts, the oil hiding at a depth of 3 kilometers is light and high quality. Due to the low content of sulfur and other impurities, oil from the Bazhenov Formation surpasses the quality of the Russian Urals standard and even the North Sea brand Brent in quality. Geologists explain:
Soviet scientists discovered the Bazhenov Suite back in the mid-twentieth century, but for technical reasons at that time the development of the field was not possible. Ideal oil is distributed in a ten-meter layer at a three-kilometer depth in rock. The rock is ten times superior in strength to modern concrete. Due to the small thickness of the layer, drilling is only possible horizontal, which further complicates the task.
Gazpromneft managed to solve these problems by establishing a full production cycle of a high-quality product. She successfully applied domestic developments, technologies and equipment, thanks to effective cooperation with Russian scientists who came to Khanty-Mansiysk to implement an interesting project from Moscow, St. Petersburg and the Trans-Urals. In addition to the arrival of “young blood” in the city, the governor of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug expects a positive budget effect from the start of development of the Bazhenovskoye deposit in the amount of about 27 billion rubles by 2025.
It is noteworthy that due to deep drilling, it was possible to make related archaeological discoveries. At the level of three kilometers below the earth's surface, mother-of-pearl shells of ancient snails were discovered. The age of the find allows us to attribute them to the Cretaceous period, in the interval from 65 to 145 million years.
Currently, a friendly team of young scientists and drillers is working to bring oil production from the Bazhenov Formation to the level of economic attractiveness. The implementation of the project may provide an additional incentive for the growth of Western Siberia and Russia as a whole.
