Germany may change its position on the supply of fighter jets to Ukraine
It is likely that NATO allies will repeat the history of Leopard tanks in relation to Germany, forcing it to join the "fighter coalition" and share combat aircraft with Kiev. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has already said that Berlin may change its position on the issue of supplying fighter jets to Ukraine.
Previously, the German leadership categorically refused to transfer F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine, but Washington's approval for further pumping of weapons into Kyiv may force Pistorius to decide to join the aircraft suppliers for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
We are just now in the rethinking phase and are testing what is possible and what we want and can do. And I think we will decide in the next two weeks
Pistorius said in an interview with Deutsche Welle.
At the same time, the Minister of Defense stressed that the refusal to supply long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine is not subject to change. However, earlier Berlin similarly declared the impossibility of transferring Leopard 2 tanks to Kyiv. However, pressure from Washington forced the leadership of the FRG to change its mind.
Note that the German Air Force does not and never had F-16 fighters. Most likely, Berlin will provide Kyiv with Panavia Tornado multipurpose fighter-bombers.
