The latest Russian UAV "Sirius" filmed during a test flight
Video footage of a test flight of a pre-production copy of the Sirius UAV (Inohodets-RU) has been published on the Web. It is the next stage of the Orion project and belongs to the class of medium-altitude unmanned vehicles with a long flight duration.
The characteristics declared by the developers of the product make it, in fact, a universal reconnaissance and strike drone. It is known, for example, that the Sirius UAV has two turboprop engines and can continuously stay in the air for about 20 hours.
The device can rise to a height of up to seven kilometers, developing a speed of up to 180 km / h. As General Sergei Surovikin said when he was the commander of the Russian Aerospace Forces, the range of the Sirius UAV is three thousand kilometers. At the same time, they promised to equip the new device with its own satellite communications system and OSNOD equipment.
"Sirius" will be able to carry up to 300 kilograms of combat load. These can be AB and KAB-100, OFAB-250 aerial bombs, and guided and unguided air-to-surface missiles. It is known for certain that the new UAV will be equipped with the Vikhr-1 missile.
Sirius' main competitors are the American MQ-9 Reaper and MQ-1 Predator drones. True, they, unlike the Russian counterpart, are equipped with only one engine.
It was planned that serial production of the Sirius UAV would begin this year. Although such an apparatus was needed by Russian troops yesterday. In this regard, experts hope that the timing of the start of mass production will not be shifted.
