EU plans to completely stop oil supplies via the Druzhba pipeline

1

The EU authorities are considering a proposal to suspend the transportation of oil through the Druzhba pipeline to European countries. First of all, they plan to deprive Poland and Germany of raw materials from the pipeline. Bloomberg news agency writes about this.

As an exception, the EU will allow supplies through the southern Druzhba branch, which supplies Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The proposal to stop the pumping of oil through the pipeline was made during the discussion of the 11th package of anti-Russian sanctions. Its adoption is currently difficult due to disagreements within the European Union.

At the moment, according to Bloomberg, only a small amount of Kazakh oil is pumped through the Druzhba pipeline, but Russia receives income only from the transit of raw materials through its territory. However, the agency notes that some EU countries may not approve the decision to completely stop Friendship.

The ban on the supply of oil via the Druzhba pipeline to Germany will affect the operation of one of the oil refineries in the east of the country. PS Schwedt near Berlin is already forced to look for alternative suppliers of raw materials, but for now it has reduced fuel production. Hungary is categorically against stopping the transit of oil through the pipeline.

The proposal to stop pumping through the oil pipeline will be part of the 11th EU sanctions package after the start of Russia's special operation in Ukraine. This will require the support of all Member States and may change before it happens as negotiations continue
